Jack Skellington Loses Arm at Disney World, Forcing Fireworks Show Change
Walt Disney World has spent years perfecting its nighttime entertainment, but sometimes, even the most elaborate productions run into unexpected problems.
That’s exactly what happened during a recent Halloween celebration at Magic Kingdom, where guests witnessed a rather unusual moment involving one of Disney’s most popular spooky characters.

Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), experienced a surprising malfunction during Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks show.
And while the performance continued, Disney had to make an unexpected adjustment before the night was over.
Jack Skellington Suffers Unexpected Malfunction at Magic Kingdom
Guests attending Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party recently got more than they bargained for when Jack Skellington’s giant puppet experienced a problem during the fireworks spectacular.
Jack plays an important role in the Halloween show, appearing as an enormous puppet that introduces the nighttime entertainment.
However, during a recent performance, part of his left arm suddenly detached and fell to the ground.
The incident happened while Jack was introducing the show, leaving the puppeteers with an unexpected situation to handle in front of the audience.
According to WDW News Today, the moment was captured on video and shared by Instagram user DisneyWorldTom.
The footage shows the puppet continuing its performance despite losing part of its arm.

Rather than stopping everything, the performers kept Jack moving and allowed the show to continue.
DisneyWorldTom shared the video with the caption, “The show must go on, even when the Pumpkin King loses an arm!”
The account also praised the puppeteers for handling the situation and continuing the performance.
The video quickly gave Disney fans a look at something they don’t typically see during Magic Kingdom’s Halloween entertainment.
Disney World Switches to Backup Version of Jack Skellington
Although the fireworks continued without any reported interruption, Disney made a noticeable change during the show’s finale.
Normally, Jack Skellington‘s enormous puppet makes another appearance toward the end of Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular.
However, the damaged puppet did not return following the incident.
Instead, Disney used an alternate presentation featuring Jack Skellington’s shadow projected onto Cinderella Castle.

This backup version, commonly called “B-mode,” allowed the character to remain part of the finale without requiring the puppeteers to operate the damaged figure.
It’s unclear whether Disney had already planned to use this alternate presentation for other technical problems or whether the team made the decision specifically because of the arm malfunction.
Either way, guests still experienced the rest of the fireworks spectacular.
Will Jack Skellington Return to Normal?
Jack Skellington has become one of the most recognizable parts of Magic Kingdom’s Halloween celebration.
His massive puppet helps bring the character to life in a way that guests can’t experience during a traditional meet-and-greet.
That’s why the malfunction caught so much attention.
However, Disney has not announced what caused the arm to detach or whether the puppet required extensive repairs afterward.
There has also been no official announcement suggesting the incident will affect upcoming performances of Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular.

Jack Skellington also appears during Disney Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where the character participates in What’s This? Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along.
For now, the unusual Magic Kingdom incident serves as another reminder that anything can happen during a live Disney performance.
Fortunately, the entertainment team kept the show moving, even when the Pumpkin King found himself missing an important piece.
