Although Walt Disney World may have the reputation of being a family-friendly theme park environment with ‘baby rides,’ there are plenty of thrill rides to go around.
In Magic Kingdom, roller coaster lovers can enjoy Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the upcoming TRON Lightcycle Run attraction. Animal Kingdom is also home to the famous thrill ride Expedition Everest Legend of the Forbidden Journey.
But the best Disney Park for thrill ride lovers is Hollywood Studios.
Hollywood Studios’ Sunset Boulevard is home to the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, one of Walt Disney World Resort’s most thrilling attractions. At nearly 60 miles per hour, it’s one of the fastest attractions in Walt Disney World, with plenty of loops and drops for thrill seekers.
However, Sunset Boulevard’s Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is closing for refurbishment on February 20th and is scheduled to reopen in the summer. But some fans are unsure if Aerosmith will be returning.
Currently, the story of the attraction is that the Guests are riding along on super stretch limo rides with the classic rock band through the crowded streets of Los Angeles to reach the concert on time. The ‘rocktastic attraction’ also plays famous Aerosmith songs such as “Walk This Way,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dude (Looks Like a Lady),” and more.
Recently, Rolling Stone reported on a disturbing claim regarding the band’s frontman Steven Tyler, who has been accused of assaulting an underage girl in the 70s. If there’s one thing we can say for sure about Disney, it’s that the company takes its public image deathly seriously. A controversy as troubling as this could be grounds for a total retheme of the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith.
However, as we pointed out last month, a refurbishment this short isn’t enough time to totally retheme an attraction. Also, Disney would likely be advertising a retheme for marketing purposes. That being said, Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith could easily drop any references to the classic rock band and phase it out without totally changing the attraction. This would be a quicker fix than a total retheme, which could take several months to a year.
Will your next Disney vacation include the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, or just the Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster? We can’t say for sure, but Disney Dining will keep readers updated on the latest news as it unfolds.
