The Walt Disney Company has recently proven its dedication to reproducing and releasing live-action remakes of some of its most classic stories…despite the fanbase’s constant begging for it to stop.
It’s no secret that Disney fans are tired of the live-action adaptations, and it’s also no secret that nobody is asking for these remakes…And yet, The Walt Disney Company confidently strives forward.
Despite Fans’ Open Displeasure, Disney Continues Releasing Live-Action Films
Upcoming live-action films include Moana (2026), Lilo & Stitch (2025), and (Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), despite the Disney fanbase’s apparent displeasure at how 2019’s live-action adaptation of The Lion King (1994) turned out.
However, one of the most infamous remakes that The Walt Disney Company will release is none other than Snow White (2025), an adaptation of one of Walt Disney Pictures’ most culturally impactful films ever.
Live-Action Snow White Movie Will Be Here Sooner Than We Realize
The upcoming remake is scheduled to debut in spring 2024…but the film has been under fire recently for an entire litany of controversies. There are so many controversies that we created an extensive guide to each scandal thus far, which can be found here.
But the most infamous scandals have been in response to some comments made by the lead actress, Rachel Zegler.
In short, the latest Disney Princess, who has been described as a “PR nightmare,” is currently under fire for criticizing the original film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937).

In one instance, Zegler made it incredibly clear that she did not grow up watching the original film, and that it frightened her as a child.
In another interview, the young actress playfully mocked the first Disney Princess, stating:
…it’s no longer 1937… [Snow White is] not going to be saved by the prince. And she’s not going to be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be.
During a recent D23 Expo, the actress also mocked the role Prince Charming plays in the original film, describing the character as “a guy who literally stalks [Snow White,]” assuring audiences that this aspect would be changed in the live-action remake.
While the original Snow White film may not have aged well for modern audiences, it can’t be denied that the film is a work of art and that it shaped the animated film genre as we know it. So, it comes as no surprise to hear that many fans took offense to the live-action Disney Princess’s comments.
That being said, it may be more surprising to hear that another Disney Princess shares the same sentiments, yet has received none of the same backlash as Zegler.
Snow White Isn’t the Only Disney Princess Expressing These Opinions…
Kristen Bell, the voice behind Princess Anna from Disney’s Frozen series, is incredibly bubbly and likable. It doesn’t hurt that she’s portrayed one of the Walt Disney Company’s most beloved princesses to date.
But in real life, the actress is more than a Disney Princess; she’s a dedicated and attentive mother, striving to teach her children all of the right lessons.
Years ago, before Frozen II (2019) came out, the actress was interviewed by People magazine, where she revealed some of her concerns regarding the plot of the original Snow White movie.
During this interview, Kristen Bell revealed that she reads to her children every night, and that she takes extra time to discuss the Snow White story afterward:
Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!’ And I’m like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something right…’
She continues, saying she’s used the story to teach her children the important lesson of consent, asking them, “Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? Because you cannot kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”

Perhaps it’s because of the clear disdain and lack of respect Rachel Zegler has for the original source material despite being the one to bring the Disney Princess to life, or perhaps it’s something more sinister…
Whatever the reason, it’s certainly strange that one Disney Princess, a young woman of color, has received hate for expressing such opinions while another Disney Princess has received praise for expressing the same exact sentiment.
We want to hear from our readers! Where do you stand on the recent Snow White controversy? Let Disney Dining know in the comments below.
There have been many cartoons depicting snow white as a gold digger living with 7 dwarves who own a diamond mine. Disney has always protected their products from such tasteless satire! Now we have 7 gang bangers and witch mauling a progressive Snow White. Ouch! Disney shot themselves in the foot.
I believe Christin Bell alleged that she has mental issues. She endorsed an anti depressant .
It’s weird people take Disney specifically prince charming kissing sleeping beauty or the prince stalking (trying to find the girl that ran away from a gods damned MURDER PLOT and protect her) Snow White and kissing her DEAD BODY as lack of consent rather than the emergency situations they are or in the case of snow white something more cultural death rite than consent based.
I mean Sleeping Beauty it was pretty much she would sleep FOREVER if someone didn’t kiss her…dunno about you, but unless she has a DNR (which she didn’t) kiss away till she wakes up. It is an emergency situation I promise 90% of people would not bitch if they were dying and someone gave them classic CPR.
And in plenty of cultures around the world, at the time Snow White happened, had death rites that included kissing the dead as a form of mourning (it has evolved as a preserving the health of the living to kissing an object and placing it with the deceased.
Cry more people! Too many people with too much time on their hands. Rachel Zegler is entitled to her opinions and haters are too jelly, getta life! Disney remakes are great, nobody is complaining cuz the remakes make hundreds of millions! Keep up the great work Disney! We’ll go see the Snow White remake at least twice in theaters
I am also entitled to my personal opinion to think you’re a f*cking moron. Oh? What? We can’t just do and say what we want? It’s my opinion is it not? Ironic.
“Nobody is complaining” yet here you are complaining about people complaining.
But hey man, don’t look at the stocks and how well they have been doing since 2021. Also please keep ignoring people’s opinions and reviews on movies or TV shows. /s
Certainly totally nothing wrong with today’s society, people who reward horrible behavior and horrible script writing and will literally swallow and gag on anything that comes from Hollywood. Swallowing seems good for business right? No critique, not even to forget consequences. YES consequences of actions, thinking about how your actions can impact those around you. The lack of people who can think on that kinda spectrum is certainly not an issue, nope. /s
But by all means Mike, please keep wearing those rose tinted glasses of yours. You have won the internet today, victory is yours. -slow clap-
Rachel fell in love with herself and fame, then she got run over by the camera.
Kristen Bell? The same person who once said Prince Charming should be arrested for sexual assault because he did not have permission to give Snow White a kiss? Gimme a break. This “re-creation” will flop bigger than Flounder out o the sea.
