Kristen Bell’s “Frozen” Rise to Stardom

Kristen Bell’s rise to stardom was significantly boosted by her role as the voice of Princess Anna in Disney’s Frozen franchise, the first film of which was released in 2013.

Upon its box office debut, Frozen became a cultural phenomenon because of its story, its characters, and its captivating music, all of which captured the hearts of audiences worldwide nearly immediately. Bell’s portrayal of Anna, the red-headed, optimistic, and fearless younger sister of the queen, showcased her vocal talents and brought a relatable, heartfelt quality to the character. The actress’s performance in the hit song “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” became iconic, further solidifying her place in pop culture. When the success of Frozen led to a sequel in 2019—Frozen II—Bell reprised her role, contributing to the film’s massive box office success. This role not only expanded her fan base but also established her as a leading voice in family entertainment, elevating her status in Hollywood. Bell will further reprise her role in the third installment of the film.

But at home, Kristen Bell is just about as down to earth as any fan could imagine.

Princess Anna: Wife and Mother of Two

Kristen Bell married comedian and actor Dax Shephard in October 2013 after getting engaged in 2010. During an interview on NBC’s Today in January 2024, Bell reminisced about her wedding day, describing the $147 ceremony as “the easiest day of her life” and explaining that the couple had always wanted an intimate ceremony, so they chose the Beverly Hills Courthouse as their venue.

The two are parents to two daughters–Lincoln Bell Shepard and Delta Bell Shepard–born on March 28, 2013, and December 19, 2014, respectively. Since the births of their daughters, both Bell and Shepard have continued to grow their careers while focusing on their family of four.

And just like everyday, non-celebrity individuals, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard deal with life as it comes to them–sometimes in the form of a “rude awakening” at an airport, despite their high levels of fatigue and exhaustion.

The Stresses of Everyday Life Become Glaringly Obvious

Bell took to Instagram to narrate the story of an incident she and her family experienced at Boston Logan International Airport. During the incident, Bell and Shepard were stranded at the airport with their daughters Lincoln and Delta due to a nine-hour flight delay.

A small commercial airplane, reminiscent of a scene from a Kristen Bell film, is taking off from a runway against a backdrop of towering skyscrapers and city skyline under a clear blue sky. The aircraft is ascending with its landing gear retracted.

When it became apparent to the couple that they’d be waiting for quite a while, they attempted to find accommodations for the night. Sadly, however, there were no vacancies in any hotels in Boston and the surrounding areas.

What were they to do?

The family got creative, attempting to make the best of an otherwise bothersome situation. They pulled out pillows and sheets and began the work of creating makeshift beds on the floor of the airport.

A group of people is sitting together at an airport gate area, some smiling and posing for the camera while others have purple heart emojis covering their faces. Among them, a woman who looks like Kristen Bell stands out. Luggage and personal items are scattered around, with airplanes visible outside the large windows.

According to Bell, who took to Instagram to tell her family’s story, there were no hotels within a 50-mile radius of the airport that had vacancies. In other words, the family had no other choice while they waited for their flight to board.

“Stranded at the Boston airport,” Bell wrote on Instagram. “Nine hours of delays.”

“We made quite a home here,” The Good Place actress said in the caption of a photo of herself with her toothbrush protruding from her mouth.

Dax Shepard echoed some of his wife’s sentiments in his own Instagram posts, giving his take on the situation at the Boston airport. “ZERO vacancies in the greater Boston area,” Shepard said in a post, which included a video of the Frozen actress creating a makeshift sleeping area of sorts in the airport. Bell can be seen in the video as she jokes about taking off her shoes “when I’m in my bedroom.”

People appear to be resting or lying on a cluttered floor with blankets and pillows. One person, resembling Kristen Bell, is seated on a bench, while another person in black is bending over, seemingly attending to something or someone on the floor. Various objects are scattered around.

In another video, Shepard is seen lying on the floor of the airport using only a neck pillow and blanket for his makeshift bed. He again mentions the lack of vacancies at area hotels, saying, “Could have been a really nice hotel, but they’re all taken.”

But his wife–the seemingly cost-conscious Kristen Bell–responds to her husband by pointing out the costs associated with a hotel stay at Boston Logan International Airport.

“It’s $600 a night to stay at Boston International Airport,” Bell replied.

Despite their best efforts at creating a comfortable place to rest while they waited for their flight, the Dax-Shepard family was eventually “kicked out” of the airport by security personnel who said they couldn’t sleep on the airport floor overnight.

Saving Grace at the Eleventh Hour

But just as Kristen Bell and her family thought they had run out of options, a kind friend with a big heart stepped in to save the day–or the night, as it were.

“Thankfully, we found friends of friends who offered us their attics and accepted us at 1 a.m.!!!!!!” Bell captioned one of the pictures of comfy beds at her new friend’s home.

Though celebrities aren’t always treated like celebrities, it’s nice to know that this story–like the ones in which Bell lends her voice to Princess Anna–had a happy ending.
