Favreau’s ‘Mandalorian’ getting a new name after season 4?

The excitement over the next season of The Mandalorian is becoming more palpable as we get closer and closer to the end of the year. That’s because Season 3 of Jon Favreau’s now-canon Star Wars-inspired series is set to hit Disney+ in early 2022.

And the rumor mill just keeps churning up the waters. Last week, there was talk of the upcoming Season 3 being the last of the uber popular series written by Jon Favreau and starring Pablo Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Ming-Na Wen, Werner Herzog, Taika Waititi and Dave Filoni, among others.

And now, it would seem we have skipped over that little tidbit completely. Now there’s talk of the series having a title change at the completion of Season 4.

Jordan Maison, Editor-in-Chief at Cinelinx, says it’s possible that The Mandalorian morphs into another series after Season 4 and is subsequently given a new title.

And apparently, it’s not really a long shot. According to Morgan Ambrose at thedirect.com, changing the name of the series from The Mandalorian to Mandalore or a similar name, would be plausible and logical, as the narrative of the series evolves. Ambrose writes:

“It makes a lot of sense for the show to change names as the narrative ramps up. When the series began, “The Mandalorian” referred to its faceless lead, a character who was almost more a suit of armor than a person. As the show has evolved, though, so has Din Djarin, and the man who took off his helmet for Grogu in the Season 2 finale is an extremely different one than the one who set out bounty hunting in the opening of Season 1.

There’s also the point that Din now wields the Darksaber, and with it, potentially has a claim to the title of “Mand’alor”/”Mandalore” that Katee Sackhoff’s Bo Katan Kryze has sought to regain. It’s quite likely that Season 3 will feature Bo Katan’s war to retake the Mandalorian homeworld, and drama is sure to ensue between her and Din regarding his possession of the Darksaber.”

Fans can hold out to see whether the title change comes after Season 4. Right now, they want to know what Season 3 will be about.

When asked about the plot for the upcoming season, Dave Filoni‘s response only left us with more questions.

“There’s a lot of new adventures coming up,” he said. “I have to be careful; I can’t really say anything specific, but I think the Force will be strong with [Season 3]; let’s just say that.”

About Becky Burkett

I'm an enthusiastic writer who finds joy in random things like cold weather, snow, "I Love Lucy," "The Andy Griffith Show," journals full of blank paper, countdowns to Christmas, the month of December, "Toy Story," "Sleeping Beauty," my 4 kids, my 4 shih tsus, Disney Parks history, Imagineering and visiting the parks. I think Walt Disney is the standard against which genius should be measured. I love to write about Disney Parks, Disney history, all things Imagineering and PIXAR. I adore the colors, story and art direction of Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" (Team Make it Blue!), and "Toy Story" is life (minus "Toy Story 4"). I believe Walt Disney was so much more than an entertainment and theme park tycoon; I believe he was a savant with a vision for life and how it could be if happiness and kindness are strived for. I love Biergarten at EPCOT and 1900 Park Fare at Disney's Grand Floridian. You can find me croonin' with the birdies at the Enchanted Tiki Room, chillin' on the PeopleMover or hangin' with Woody and the gang at Toy Story Land. I'm always looking for Imagineers in the parks, and I'd rather meet Joe Rohde and Tony Baxter than anyone in Hollywood! Hey, if you dream it, you really can do it!
