It seems hard to believe, but it has been more than two years since Guests have been able to venture into the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater and enjoy a showing of Fantasmic! in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. Fantasmic! closed when the theme parks were forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the theme parks reopened after a few months, Disney announced that Fantasmic! would be undergoing a large refurbishment.
Fans have been waiting on pins and needles for Disney to announce the return of Fantasmic! to Walt Disney World and, in late August, Disney shared that Cast Member rehearsals had begun.
Now, we are one step closer to Fantasmic’s return! Twitter user Drew (@DrewDisneyDude) shared a video of Fantasmic! testing in the amphitheater! While the video does not have sound, Drew told followers that music could be heard and that it sounded like at least one sequence of the show was fully running.
You can watch the video below.

When the show finally does return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, it will not be the exact same show that Disney fans have gotten used to. Earlier this year, Disney announced that changes would be coming to Fantasmic!. Mainly, that the Pocahontas scene would be changed to one that featured a number of princesses.
Since it’s been a while since you’ve seen Fantasmic!, here’s more on the popular nighttime show.
A Legendary Tale
Featuring more than 50 live performers, massive sets, stunning effects, dazzling pyrotechnics and rousing music, this larger-than-life show is painted on a grand canvas of dancing water and light like nothing you’ve ever seen. Overflowing with silly and suspenseful surprises, it will leave your entire family smiling from ear-to-ear!
A Night When Dreams Come True
Fast asleep, Mickey Mouse dreams that he is a mighty sorcerer’s apprentice with the power to control water, color and magic. The Disney Villains—including Maleficent in the form of a towering, 40-foot-tall dragon—turn Mickey’s dream into a nightmare, but don’t underestimate the power of Mickey’s imagination! The fantastic fantasy includes Disney Characters from some of your favorite animated classics:
- Beauty and the Beast
- Sleeping Beauty
- The Little Mermaid
- Aladdin
- The Lion King
- Pocahontas
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
While rehearsals are underway and Fantasmic! is now in the testing phase, we still do not know when the show will return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
