Guests visiting Walt Disney World Resort’s EPCOT are in for a treat as the highly-anticipated attraction inspired by Disney’s animated film, Moana (2016), has reached a stunning new milestone.
EPCOT’s transformation from Future World and World Showcase into four neighborhoods is well underway.
World Celebration neighborhood holds the newly refreshed entrance to EPCOT with Spaceship Earth. World Discovery neighborhood is extremely popular with the addition of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. And World Showcase remains a Disney Park favorite as Guests explore the 11 pavilions.

But, our focus is shifting to the World Nature neighborhood, where Disney is hard at work transforming this space into the future attraction, Journey of Water Inspired by Moana.
The attraction’s construction has been slowly coming along, but we’ve seen rock formations being erected along with Moana-inspired designs.

Te Fiti is an important character in the Moana film. She is known as a goddess that has the ability to create life, including the islands of Polynesia. Maui, the demi-god, steals Te Fiti’s heart, which turns Te Fiti into Te Ka, a demon of earth and fire. Moana restores Te Fiti’s heart and saves the islands she and her family call home.
Te Fiti will be a perfect focal point for Guests as they explore the new Journey of Water Inspired by Moana. Disney has described the attraction with the following:
“Stroll along a self-guided outdoor trail where you can play and interact with water as it travels from the sky to the oceans and back again. Along the way, learn about the importance of water and discover its playful personality—just as Moana did on her heroic voyage.”
“Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana is scheduled to open within World Nature—the EPCOT neighborhood dedicated to understanding and preserving the beauty and balance of the natural world.”
Currently, Disney has announced Journey of Water Inspired by Moana will open in “late 2023.” With the milestone of Te Fiti’s arrival, it looks like Walt Disney Imagineering is making excellent progress on this incoming EPCOT experience.
