Disney’s Top 10 Animated Characters That Have Won Our Hearts

Here’s my disclaimer: this list is not of the cutest characters or even necessarily my favorite characters. This is a list of some obvious lovable characters, but also of the characters that were maybe a bit rough at first, but proved their hearts to ours. This list has some underdogs, some background characters, some heroes. They’re all worthy of love:

10. Olaf

He’s Olaf, and he likes warm hugs. Olaf is a character in Frozen that was clearly meant to win hearts. He’s the goofy, humorous sidekick. But at first I wasn’t sure if that was going to be too over the top. His character had the huge potential to be super annoying. But after a couple viewings, and several near-meltings later, Olaf won my heart. Not to mention he really is funny.

9. Bolt

Yes, Bolt is the hero of the story in his own feature film, Bolt. He didn’t really have to sell himself. But from the second I saw that little white puppy playing with his carrot in the pet store, I was a goner. From being a tiny puffball who loved his new human, to being a TV star who was fiercely loyal to her, Bolt is more than okay in my book.

8. Thomas O’Malley

O’Malley the alley cat! Here’s a smooth talking, city slicking, bachelor cat for ages in The Aristocats. Thomas O’Malley was always on his own and only cared about what made him happy – until he met Duchess and the kittens. When that happened, he changed his outlook and realized that being alone wasn’t such a great thing. He certainly won Duchess’ heart – and ours too!

7. Arthur (Wart)

The ultimate underdog story. Wart grew up in a loveless home, being treated like dirt and forced to essentially be a slave to the master of the castle in The Sword in the Stone. You instantly pity him. But then he meets Merlin and is shown love and magic and he becomes a hero! Wart finally believes in himself and pulls out the sword Excalibur, making him King Arthur. I love a good ‘rise up and kick butt’ story, especially when the hero is so adorable.

6. Dot

Pretend it’s a seed, okay? Sometimes the little guys are the best ones. Dot is princess and second in line to the throne of the ant colony in A Bug’s Life. She’s a kid and is sick of being treated as such. No one takes her seriously at first except Flik. But she’s spunky and determined, which makes her fly right into our hearts!

5. Kirby

Remember this little guy from Chicken Little? Kirby is a lost alien, trying to find his parents with the help of Chicken Little, Runt, Abby, and Fish. The audience can never understand what he says because it’s all alien language, but somehow he gets by. He’s tiny and orange and fluffy, with three eyes and makes adorable little “plup plup” noises. It’s kind of hard to not love him, actually.

4. Merida

She’ll be shooting for her own hand in Brave! Merida is too cool. I think Merida won our hearts because she wasn’t trying to win anyone’s heart. She’s the ultimate teenager, with unruly hair, overBEARing (get it?) parents, obnoxious brothers, and responsibilities she doesn’t want to face. She’s so different from most Disney princesses, but her uniqueness makes her extremely lovable.

3. Jessie

Jessie is a yodeling cowgirl in Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3! But her life wasn’t always happy and fun. Before she found her home with Andy and Molly, she was really hurt by Emily, leaving her burdened with trust issues. We love Jessie because she takes a leap of faith and accepts love into her life again and is so rewarded! Woody might be the hero, but Jessie lassos our hearts.

2. Baymax

He is not fast. But he is loveable! Baymax was designed and built by Tadashi in Big Hero 6, which automatically pulls at the heartstrings. But he is big and huggable and extremely caring. He is an amazing source of love and friendship for Hiro when he needed it most. Not to mention, Baymax’s little quips about what is going on in the moment are absolutely hysterical.

1. Mickey

Who’s the leader of the club that’s made for you and me, M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E! Mickey Mouse (Donald Duck!) Mickey Mouse (Donald-) Okay, I’ll stop before I get too carried away. Of course Mickey has to be my number one! He’s the character that started it all! Even if Mickey’s not your favorite character, everyone has a soft spot for the old mouse. Mickey is optimistic, cheerful, determined, and so stinking cute. But, to be fair, the rest of his gang has totally won our hearts too – I’m looking at you, Pluto. With Mickey comes magic, and he’ll always win our hearts.

Honorable Mention:
Pooh: Pooh is a bear of very little brain. But he is loving and lovable. What more do could you want?

Now don’t shoot the messenger here…This is only my list. Which animated characters have won your hearts?
