When price increases Disney’s Genie+ were announced last month Guests were…confused. The new pricing structure varied by day and what it cost yesterday would not necessarily be what it costs today and likely won’t be what it costs tomorrow. This led to an outcry from Guests that the process is now needlessly confusing. Especially since the price wasn’t prominently displayed and you had to go through several steps just to find out the “price du jour.”
It seems Disney has heard the complaints and made adjustments. No, don’t get excited, they didn’t lower the price (we can dream though). We are excited about the change nonetheless.

Today on the My Disney Experience App the price for the day is prominently displayed. This, while doesn’t alleviate the wallet, does alleviate some of the stress involved in the process. It’s now easy to look and see right away what the cost is to quickly determine whether to buy that day or not. It’s a small, but handy little change.

Genie+, which took the place of Disney’s now defunct complimentary FastPass service is an optional paid service that allows guests to skip the regular standby line and head right to the Lightning Lane entrance with significantly lower wait times. Guests simply purchase the service and then are able to select various attractions to “skip the line” (in reality you don’t really skip the line per say but you wait in a drastically shorter line). This maximizes your time in the Park because it minimizes your time spent waiting in line.

Despite challenges, the service is very popular. More than half of Disney Guests purchase Genie+ when they visit Disney Parks. This change, while small, is a welcome one. The complicated process needs to be simplified and this is one step toward that goal. Despite the cost fluctuations and complicated process, we absolutely recommend Disney’s Genie+! The process, once you get it down, is relatively smooth and does go a long way toward making your time in Park more enjoyable. With the cost of tickets continually rising, maximizing your time is more important than ever.
