Disney World Vacation Alert: Wave of Ride Breakdowns Derails Trips Resort-Wide
September exposed a frustrating problem at Walt Disney World: some of the resort’s biggest attractions simply couldn’t stay running consistently.
Temporary downtime is part of any theme park vacation. Florida storms can shut down outdoor rides, while technical and maintenance problems can affect attractions throughout the parks. But the September numbers show just how frequently some Disney World rides stopped operating.
The problem stretched across Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Several major attractions experienced dozens of closures during the period tracked.
If that pattern continues, future guests could find themselves rearranging carefully planned days around rides that repeatedly go offline.
Several Rides Stayed Below 30 Closures
Not every major attraction experienced the same level of trouble.
Avatar Flight of Passage recorded only three closures during the tracked period, making it one of the more reliable rides on the list.
Na’vi River Journey only had six closures over 29 days.
The numbers increased significantly from there.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway experienced 20 closures across 15 days. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets recorded the same total over 15 days.
EPCOT had two attractions approaching 30. Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure went down 27 times across 20 days, while Frozen Ever After reached 29 closures over 18 days.
For guests trying to fit multiple popular rides into one visit, even temporary downtime can force an unexpected change of plans.
The Closure Totals Continued Climbing
Three attractions landed in the 30s.
Expedition Everest experienced 32 closures during the period tracked. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad followed with 34 across 22 days, while Tiana’s Bayou Adventure reached 38 closures over 23 days.
Outdoor attractions face an extra obstacle in Central Florida. Thunderstorms and lightning can force Disney to temporarily suspend operations, making rides such as Expedition Everest and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure vulnerable in bad weather.
Downtime can also send guests looking for alternatives, potentially adding more people to queues at other attractions.
And several rides crossed an even more troubling mark.
Four Attractions Recorded At Least 40 Closures
Kali River Rapids reached exactly 40 closures during the tracked period.
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance went one higher, recording 41 closures across 23 days at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train tied that total at Magic Kingdom, experiencing 41 closures across 25 days.
Those numbers matter because these attractions can be priorities for guests. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train remains a major Magic Kingdom draw, while Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance can be a centerpiece of a visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Temporary downtime could leave guests waiting for a reopening or changing plans entirely.
Two Attractions Surpassed 50
The numbers jumped again with Spaceship Earth.
The EPCOT attraction recorded 54 closures across 25 days, putting it among the most frequently interrupted rides during the period.
Slinky Dog Dash narrowly passed it.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ Toy Story Land coaster experienced 55 closures across 28 days. Its outdoor design makes weather another factor guests may encounter when trying to ride.
Still, 55 closures wasn’t enough to come close to the attraction sitting at the top.
Test Track Finished Far Ahead of Everything Else
No attraction on the list approached Test Track.
The EPCOT ride recorded 93 closures across 29 days. That averages more than three shutdowns per day during the tracked period.
The gap was substantial. Slinky Dog Dash ranked behind it with 55 closures, meaning Test Track experienced 38 more.
For guests hoping to make Test Track part of their EPCOT day, repeated interruptions can make timing difficult. A temporary shutdown could mean waiting for the attraction to return, leaving the area, or trying again later.
Disney World Guests Are Paying for Their Park Time
Frequent downtime becomes more frustrating when families consider the cost of a Disney World vacation.
Admission can cost a family hundreds of dollars before hotels, parking, meals, merchandise, and Lightning Lane purchases come into play.
Weather and technical problems will always affect theme parks, and no attraction can remain immune to unexpected downtime.
However, September’s list includes Test Track, Slinky Dog Dash, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
These are attractions guests may prioritize when planning their days.
September’s numbers show the issue wasn’t confined to one theme park. Major attractions across all four Disney World parks experienced repeated interruptions.
If that level of downtime carries into the coming months, future guests may have to prepare for their plans to change once they arrive.
