Disney Star Takes Over as the New ‘Snow White’

Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) is a groundbreaking animated film that holds a special place in cinematic history. Released in 1937, it was the first-ever full-length animated feature film and is considered a timeless classic that paved the way for the entire animation industry.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is an adaptation of the classic German fairy tale Snow White, as recorded by the Brothers Grimm, however, Walt Disney saw a vision for Snow White.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs follows the young and beautiful princess, Snow White, who becomes the target of her wicked stepmother, the Evil Queen, due to her unparalleled beauty. The Queen is envious of Snow White and orders her death, but the Huntsman cannot go through with it and allows Snow White to escape into the forest. Lost and frightened, Snow White finds refuge in the cozy cottage of seven endearing dwarfs: Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy, and Dopey. She wins over the hearts of the dwarfs, and together, they protect her from the Queen’s relentless efforts to destroy her.

This popular film has Disney in the process of making a live-action Snow White (2025). The movie is expected to delve deeper into the characters and storyline while retaining the essential elements of the original. Rachel Zegler has been cast as Snow White, and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Andrew Burnap’s role in the film will be playing Jonathan.

Rachel Zegler has received backlash after several comments about removing the prince from the live-action Snow White.

“I just mean that it’s no longer 1937,” Zegler said. “We absolutely wrote a ‘Snow White’ that … she’s not going to be saved by the prince, and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love; she’s going to be dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave and true.”

Disney fans may be thinking, who is this Rachel Zegler anyway? Rachel Zegler’s defining moment came when she was cast as the lead role of Maria Vasquez in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 adaptation of the iconic musical West Side Story (2021). Zegler is also set to star inThe Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes(2023). Due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, Zegler has been removed from Paddington 3 (2025). In addition, Disney has announced that the live-action Snow White is postponed from March 22, 2024, until March 21, 2025.

Disney fans wonder if the backlash will remove Zegler as Snow White. If it were to happen, there are some who have an idea who they’d like to see take over the role. Well, how about Demi Lovato?

Demi Lovato began at a young age when she started acting on the children’s television series Barney & Friends. Demi Lovato’s breakthrough came when she starred in Disney Channel’s Camp Rock in 2008, where she worked alongside the Jonas Brothers. Over the years Demi Lovato has released several successful albums, including Here We Go Again (2009), Unbroken (2011), Confident (2015), and Tell Me You Love Me (2017). Apart from her music, Demi has used her celebrity platform to raise awareness about mental health issues and her own personal struggles.
