Disney Reveals Massive Hollywood Studios Courtyard Update After 8 Months Behind Walls

For nearly a year, this entire section of Disney’s Hollywood Studios felt frozen behind construction walls. Guests walking toward Animation Courtyard were suddenly met with blocked pathways, demolition work, and constant signs teasing that something entirely new was coming to the park.

Now, Disney has finally dropped the walls.

Guests can officially explore the newly reimagined Walt Disney Studios courtyard area, and the transformation is much bigger than many people expected. What used to feel like one of the quieter and more outdated sections of Hollywood Studios now feels much more alive, open, and intentionally designed around Disney animation history.

The changes are immediately noticeable.

The old Animation Courtyard entrance is gone, replaced by a more open layout with additional greenery, benches, themed signage, and visual references pulled directly from the real Walt Disney Studios campus in Burbank. Disney clearly wanted this area to feel less like a leftover corner of the park and more like a working animation studio brought to life.

One of the biggest things guests are noticing right away is how many small details Disney packed into the courtyard. There are animation-inspired street signs, hidden character references, posters from classic Disney movies, themed pavement markings, and even nods to Pluto’s Corner from the real studio lot.

The space also feels far more relaxing than before. Hollywood Studios has become one of Walt Disney World’s busiest and most intense parks over the last several years thanks to major additions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Toy Story Land. Between Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster, the park often feels nonstop from the moment guests walk through the gates.

This new courtyard almost works as a reset button in the middle of the chaos.

Families now have additional seating areas, shaded spaces, and new entertainment offerings on the way. Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! officially opens May 26 and will likely become a major draw for younger guests visiting the park.

That’s important because Hollywood Studios has needed more offerings aimed at smaller children for a long time. The new show gives families another indoor option while also helping balance crowds throughout the park.

The courtyard also appears built with future character interactions in mind. There’s far more open space than before, and Disney has already confirmed that The Magic of Disney Animation experience will eventually include multiple meet-and-greet opportunities when it opens later this summer.

Inside that experience, guests will reportedly meet Disney characters, participate in Olaf-led drawing classes, and explore an Alice in Wonderland-inspired play area.

The animation theme is everywhere throughout the land right now. Guests can already spot references to films like Frozen(2013), Encanto (2021), Aladdin (1992), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Mulan (1998), and Zootopia (2016).

Disney also appears to be heavily promoting Zootopia 2 (2026) throughout the courtyard with posters and themed displays.

As soon as the walls came down, reactions immediately started spreading online. Drew Smith shared photos of the newly opened courtyard on social media, helping give Disney fans their first real look at the completed area.

And honestly, reactions have been much more positive than many expected.

Disney fans have become increasingly protective of older park areas over the last few years, especially as major changes continue reshaping Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios. But this update feels less like Disney erased Animation Courtyard and more like they gave it a modern refresh while still honoring Disney animation history.

The biggest thing still missing is The Magic of Disney Animation attraction itself, which won’t open until later this summer. Once that happens, this section of Hollywood Studios could quickly become one of the park’s strongest family-focused areas.

For now, though, simply seeing the walls gone already feels like a major moment for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
