Disney’s Latest Hotel Change Has Parents Furious—Is Your Family at Risk?

A potential change at Walt Disney World Resort hotels has some parents voicing outrage, claiming it caused severe allergic reactions in their children. The discussion, which started online, has fueled speculation about whether a switch in detergents or bedding practices could be to blame—and whether other families could face similar risks.

Allergic Reactions Raise Concerns

Walt Disney World Resort is known for its world-class accommodations across more than 20 hotels, ranging from budget-friendly Value Resorts to luxurious Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas. However, some guests’ recent hotel stays have been far from magical, as reports of unexpected allergic reactions have emerged.

On Reddit, u/stonygirl87 recently shared a concerning experience during their family’s recent stay.

“Does anyone know what detergent is used on the sheets and towels?” the guest wrote. “We are wrapping up our trip and our poor kiddo ended up having a reaction on his skin. The worse parts are the areas not covered by pjs. We ended up at the urgent care Disney recommends… and kiddo had to get a steroid. Front desk couldn’t give us an answer on brand.”

The guest, a longtime visitor to Walt Disney World Resort, explained that their child had never experienced issues during their previous trips, making the reaction even more surprising.

“This has never happened before,” they added.

Other Disney Resort Guests Speak Out

The post quickly gained attention, with other Disney Parks fans chiming in with similar experiences of allergic reactions during recent hotel stays.

“I haven’t seen anyone else talk about this!” said u/cluelessintelligence. “My last trip in mid December I had the worst allergies I’ve ever had in a hotel and I have stayed at Disney almost a dozen times in the last three years and never had an issue if I bring my own pillow.”

The commenter described experiencing itchy eyes, a scratchy throat, and sinus congestion that only occurred in the hotel room.

“Thankfully I didn’t have a skin reaction like your child…but it seems they have changed something up with laundry!!”

Other guests shared comparable stories of irritation, such as u/xauronx, who said, “My skin is sensitive to detergents as well and the couple of nights at Disney were itchy!”

What’s Causing the Reactions?

While many suspect that a change in detergent or laundry practices may be responsible, others cautioned against jumping to conclusions.

“Don’t get too focused on the detergent just because of the pajama thing,” wrote u/agitatedcockroach862. “So many new experiences happen on trips and it could be any number of environmental factors including food.”

As of now, Walt Disney World Resort has not confirmed any updates to its laundry or cleaning protocols. Without official clarification, speculation continues to grow among concerned Disney Parks fans.

For parents worried about potential allergic reactions, it’s worth taking precautions, such as bringing hypoallergenic bedding or consulting with hotel staff about cleaning practices before arrival.
