Disney Seems to Be Struggling to Fill Its New Galactic Starcruiser

Anyone who has visited Walt Disney World Resort recently will tell you that it seems like there is no longer a “slow season”. Crowds have been at near all-time highs, and it doesn’t look like they have any intention of slowing down. One of the busiest times of the year is summer. Kids are out on summer vacation and parents find it is the easiest time to travel. This summer is sure to see Park reservations book up quickly, along with dining reservations. Daily Lightning Lane reservations will also be more difficult to get.

However, it looks like one experience will be more available than most — the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser. The new, completely immersive experience only opened on March 1, but it looks like Disney is struggling to fill reservations. When you look at the calendar for the Galactic Starcruiser, nearly all dates are unavailable through June. From there, only half of July is filled and all of August is completely open. In fact, from July 31 through December 31, only four “Voyage Dates” are unavailable — which encompasses two of the busiest times of year at Disney World, summer and the holidays.

Now, the Galactic Starcruiser ship — called the Halcyon — only has 100 rooms available. While one could think that that would mean bookings would fill up quickly, the price tag of this experience is not one many can afford. For two adults to do this Star Wars experience — which lasts two days (no option to go one day or extend) — is almost $5,000. That is just for the standard cabin. Other cabins cost even more. For two adults and one child, the price jumps to $5,300, and for 3 adults and 1 child, the cheapest price is $6,000.

It is important to note that the Galactic Starcruiser is getting overall positive reviews — as long as you fully commit to the stay. Guests who go and don’t really want to get involved will not get the most out of their stay. Here is more information on the Star Wars hotel from the Walt Disney World website:

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is a revolutionary new 2-night experience where you are the hero. You and your group will embark on a first-of-its-kind Star Wars adventure that’s your own. It’s the most immersive Star Wars story ever created—one where you live a bespoke experience and journey further into a Star Wars adventure than you ever dreamed possible.

Arrive at the Walt Disney World Resort terminal, board a launch pod and rendezvous with the magnificent Halcyon starcruiser. Stay in a cabin or suite with an exquisite view of space. Throughout the ship, you’ll interact with an eclectic collection of characters, sit down to exotic galactic cuisine and perhaps even plot a secret mission together.

As the itinerary continues, you’ll take the story further and deeper. Choose your path. Seek out the inner workings of the legendary starship, learn the traditional art of wielding a lightsaber and even jump on a transport to the planet Batuu—where your mission continues at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge!

Guests who stay on the Galactic Starcruiser will have food and beverage included while on the ship.  A meal is also included during their time in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Alcoholic and specialty beverages are not included in the price. Admission to Galaxy’s Edge is also included in the price. Reservations for the Galactic Starcruiser can only be made via telephone.

Are you surprised to see Disney struggling to fill up the Galactic Starcruiser?
