New Disney Genie+ Purchasing Rule Will Have Big Impact on Some Ticket Holders

In October 2021, Disney World introduced Guests to Disney Genie and Disney Genie+. Disney Genie+ was the new paid-for FastPass system where Guests book Lightning Lane access (FastPasses) completely on their phone. Disney Genie+ was supposed to make things easier for Guests and allow them to see what Lightning Lane rides were available for booking and when they were available. Reactions to Disney Genie+ since its launch has been mixed, but Disney CEO Bob Chapek has recently said that nearly 50 percent of Guests visiting the Resort have been purchasing Genie+.

When Disney Genie+ first launched, any Guest visiting Walt Disney World who purchased a single or multi-day ticket had the option to add Disney Genie+ onto their ticket. Here is what the original purchasing details were for Genie+:

However, Disney has recently made a small change to its purchasing rules that will have a big impact on single-day ticket holders. Single-day ticket purchasers will no longer be able to buy Disney Genie+ in advance. Those ticket holders will only be able to purchase Disney Genie+ through the My Disney Experience app on the day their ticket is valid.

Here are the new rules for purchasing Disney Genie+ for either Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, or EPCOT.

As you can see, Guests with multi-day tickets or a vacation package will still be able to add Disney Genie+ to their tickets in advance. While Annual Passholders will be in the same boat as single-day ticket holders and will need to add Disney Genie+ to their ticket the same day they visit the theme parks.

Disney Genie+ is available at all four theme parks and includes a number of rides. However, unlike Disneyland, Walt Disney World’s Disney Genie+ does not include PhotoPass downloads. If you would like to download all of the incredible photos that Disney PhotoPass photographers take, you can purchase a Memory Maker for $69 per day. Guests can also add a Memory Maker to their vacation packages. Annual Passholders can add Memory Maker to their Annual Pass for the price of $99.
