The Disney Genie, Disney Genie+, and Lightning Lane are officially on their way to Walt Disney World Resort, beginning Tuesday, October 19, 2021. We can say goodbye to the former complimentary FastPass system. Disney Park Guests will now have the option to pay to skip the attraction lines. There are three parts to what will launch on October 19 in regards to the general “Disney Genie”. First, there is a complimentary Disney Genie experience in the My Disney Experience mobile app to help Guests optimize their Park Day with the goal of lowering wait times in lines. Secondly, there are now eight Lightning Lane attractions that will allow Guests to pay a-la-carte to purchase a pass to skip the line. Thirdly, and what we are covering in this post, is the new option called Disney Genie+.

Disney Genie+ Basics
Let’s begin the breakdown! Disney Genie+ is basically the former FastPass system with some changes. The most noticeable change is that it is NOT complimentary, as the former FastPass system was. The cost is $15 per person, per day and is not a required purchase. By purchasing the Disney Genie+, you’ll have an individual attraction selection from 40 plus experiences to choose from. You start your day by selecting one Disney Genie+ attraction. Disney Genie+ will give you an available time. You choose that option, go to the Lightning Lane entrance of the attraction at the scheduled time, enjoy the ride, and then select another Disney Genie+ attraction to go to next. Much like FastPass, some rides may not have availability for your desired time so you will have to select accordingly.

How To Purchase & Use
If you haven’t already, download the My Disney Experience App. This app is about to receive a major upgrade when Disney adds the complimentary Disney Genie into the mix. There is no separate Disney Genie App – it’s simply being integrated into the My Disney Experience App. Inside the My Disney Experience App, you’ll load your credit card number into your profile if you haven’t already, which will be the same credit card number linked to other purchases on the app such as mobile food and beverage ordering and gift shop mobile purchases. You can purchase the $15 per person, per day Disney Genie+ before you step foot into the Parks as an add-on to a ticket or vacation package for the duration of your visit via Dsneyworld.com or authorized travel professionals. Same-day purchases are available as well, on the day of your Park visit. Single-day use for existing ticket holders or Annual Passholders can purchase Disney Genie+ in the Disney Genie service in the My Disney Experience app. Once you have the Disney Genie+ service purchased, you can book the next available arrival window for your first experience via the My Disney Experience app beginning at 7:00 a.m. on the day of your visit. Once you’ve redeemed your initial selection (or the arrival window has passed), you can make another selection using the app, up to Park closing. Ready to use your Disney Genie+ selection? Simply arrive at the attraction at your selected time, scan your MagicBand or show the Cast Members your app, and enter the attraction through the Lightning Lane entrance.
To hopefully help clarify any confusion… you will see all attractions throughout the Theme Park have Lightning Lane signs. Those that purchase the Disney Genie+ will enter through the Lightning Lane entrance. Just be aware that if you see a Lightning Lane sign for Haunted Mansion, for example, that doesn’t mean you can buy a Lightning Lane pass for it á la carte as Haunted Mansion is a Disney Genie+ attraction, not one of the select eight Lightning Lane attractions. “Lightning Lane” is the term Disney is using for the lines for both Disney Genie+ and the eight Lightning Lane attractions. Also to note, you do NOT have to purchase Disney Genie+ to purchase the a-la-carte Lightning Lane access. Hang in there Disney fans, we know it’s confusing! Will you be purchasing Disney Genie+ or sticking with the standby lines?
