The newest and third installment of Disney’s Tron franchise just got a major cast update. Fans of the futuristic sci-fi series now know who will star alongside Jared Leto in Tron: Ares. It’s Evan Peters! The actor’s most recent claim to fame is in Netflix and Ryan Murphy‘s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. However, Peters is also well known for his long run on the cult classic show American Horror Story.
Now Evan Peters it set to star in one of Disney’s most technologically adventurous franchises, but it is actually not his Disney debut. Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Disney+ may recall the actor’s short stint on WandaVision. He played an actor playing Scarlet Witch’s twin brother Quicksilver, which was a meta nod to his role as the superhero in the recent X-men films. Evan Peters made appearances on Disney Channel‘s Phil of the Future as well!
Disney’s Tron series explores the idea of a digital universe existing within computers, where programs have their own personalities and can interact with each other. It explores themes of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and the balance between technology and humanity. Disney’s Tron series is a science fiction franchise that began with the original film called Tron, released in 1982.
The story revolves around a computer programmer named Kevin Flynn, played by Jeff Bridges, who is digitized and transported into a virtual world inside a computer program. In this digital realm, he becomes a player in gladiatorial games and fights against a tyrannical computer program known as the Master Control Program.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Jared Leto is slated to play Ares, AKA the manifestation of the program, while Evan Peters’ role is not yet known. Though, “the script calls for a soldier in the computer world and an awkward gamer in the human world.”
This movie has taken years to get off the ground, but while you wait for it to finally materialize, you can transport yourself into the Tron world on Walt Disney World’s new rollercoaster at Magic Kingdom!
