We were so hopeful. We really wanted to believe. We wanted Cinderella Castle Dream Lights to return. Disney has been celebrating Halfway to the Holidays all week in honor of Christmas just being 6 months away. On Tuesday the dropped news about Disneyland. Wednesday it was Disney Cruise Line‘s turn. Today Walt Disney World is up. We hoped to learn that Cinderella Castle Dream Lights would return but sadly that was not the case.
The Cinderella Castle Dream Lights were a Christmas staple at Magic Kingdom. They made their first appearance in 2007. For seven years, Cinderella and friends called upon the Fairy Godmother to light up the castle each night during the holiday season. In 2014, however, the citizens of Arendelle moved in to light up the night. Elsa used her ice lowers to light the castle every night during the holidays until 2019.
The Dream Lights did not return in 2020 due to the unique uncertainty we found ourselves in. Then in 2021 the 50th anniversary celebration decorations that adorned the castle prevented the lights from being installed. Now that the decorations are gone, we had hoped the lights would return. Instead, a brand new Castle lighting will take its place.
Elsa returns to light up the night but instead of using her ice powers to cover the castle with ice circles it appears as though the castle will be covered in snowflakes!!! Very few details have been released so far but what we do knownis that Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and the Snowgies will all gather together to light the castle in a brand new way. From the artist rendering it looks like the new castle lighting ceremony will be predominantly projections. Unlike most of Magic Kingdom’s special holiday events, his lighting will take place during regular park hours and during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party!
This comes n the heels of some other very exciting Disney news! Hollywood Studios is getting a brand new Christmas Party and the beloved Candle Light Processional is back! Additionally, Disney has announced decorations and special events during park hours at all four theme parks!
