Actor Chadwick Boseman, best known for his role as T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, passed away in 2020. Black Panther was a high-priority character in the MCU, as Wakanda would become the first place the Avengers would stand off against Thanos. However, Boseman is credited with several roles outside of the MCU that have contributed significantly to the enjoyment of many and deserve high recognition. Coming up on the third anniversary of his death, Boseman will receive further acknowledgment of his lasting impact on storytelling, especially in the African-American community.
Chadwick Boseman’s Accolades and Awards
Boseman boasts an imposing resume. He’s been the recipient of a Screen Actor’s Guild Award for his role in the 2020 film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and a Golden Globe as best actor for this same role. Bosman’s role as Black Panter also earned him a Screen Actor’s Guild Award in 2019. These are only a few notable accolades that acknowledge the incredible work Boseman was known for before his death. Although best known as T’Challa, Boseman possessed many roles, many lesser known, but still the recipient of other awards via MTV, the NAACP, People’s Choice, and BET.
Boseman’s Death
Chadwick Boseman passed away at his home in Los Angeles on August 28, 2020, due to complications associated with colon cancer. The actor was diagnosed in 2016 and fought the disease for four years before his death. Although many weren’t aware, Boseman worked through his diagnosis during the filming of Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: End Game. His co-star, Martin Freeman, was quoted as shocked that no one at Marvel was aware of Boseman’s diagnosis. Fans were left heartbroken and dismayed by the news of his passing.
Posthumous Awards
In the years since his passing, Boseman has been honored for the work he left behind. He was posthumously nominated for an Academy Award. In 2022, Boseman made history by becoming the first Marvel star to win an Emmy in an acting category. The award was given for his work on Marvel’s What-If?, where he returned to voice Black Panther in four episodes.

Hollywood Walk of Fame
The Hollywood Walk of Fame was established by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in 1958. The Walk of Fame was designed to promote tourism but now serves as a great honor to remember some of the classic roles in cinema. Walk of Fame honorees are selected through nominations and donations from studios. Some other notable names that can be found on the Hollywood Walk of Fame are Roy O. Disney, Mickey, and Minnie Mouse.
Boseman joins a long list of celebrities who have given special performances that will endure a lifetime. It is imperative that works like Chadwick’s be immortalized, and this is a fantastic way to ensure the star’s name sits as a focal point in Hollywood.
