You’re an adult. You don’t have time for video games.
But Disney Emoji Blitz is a phone game that you should spend the time you don’t have playing. Phone games are different though. They’re apps. And apps are just for when you’re waiting for your coffee or you’re on the commuter train, right?!
I can tell you from personal experience that Disney Emoji Blitz is a great source of little dopamine hits, especially if you’re a Disney fan. Instead of candy or gems (if you’re more familiar with Bejeweled), the little icons are Disney characters in emoji form. There’s truly nothing cuter.
Disney Emoji Blitz
There are hundreds of characters from almost every movie franchise in the Disney universe. That includes Star Wars, all the princesses and most of their side characters, Pixar movies, and even some of the characters from movies previously owned by companies that Disney has acquired. Think Anastasia and Ice Age characters.
Before I get too far ahead of myself, the point of the game is pretty straightforward. It’s a classic match-three-style game where you can score points and earn coins to use in other parts of the game. You choose one of the Disney emoji characters from your inventory. You win and can use your coins to “buy” more characters from a variety of boxes throughout the game.
Each character has a unique power that gives you different advantages when you play the rounds, which last around 60-90 seconds. Certain power-ups include rainbow stars that clear the entire board, sunshines that clear horizontally and vertically, and lightning clouds that clear the direction you move them in. You get five lives that refresh in increments of ten minutes.
The true addicting part of this game is that there is always some kind of challenge to win. There are always two or three outstanding missions for you to accomplish, which help you level up and win rare emojis, like the Fairy Godmother from Cinderella. Daily challenges – easy, medium, and hard – allow you to earn extra power-ups and coins or special prizes, depending on the day. Also, collecting certain emoji ‘items’ that drop during games will win you a new emoji. AND THEN there are scheduled characters-specific events throughout the month, introducing newly created emojis and giving opportunities to win some otherwise hard-to-get.

Of course, there’s a free prize wheel where you can watch ads to earn extra points or power-ups, but I wouldn’t recommend spending any real money on the game. It’s free to download but there are tons of purchasing options (which I may or may not have fallen victim to at the start of my addiction), but now I realize that they give you enough freebies to get really far in the game. Basically, you can collect a ton of emojis without spending any money at all.
Some characters like Simba, Merida, Rapunzel, and Pegasus, have baby versions of themselves, and I just cannot resist. You’re going to have some characters that you use because they are the most powerful for certain missions. For example, King Candy from Wreck-It Ralph has a crazy glitch power that always helps to get high scores. But I’m a sucker for Frozen and I will use Anna just because I love her. Also Stitch.
I wish I could explain to you all the intricacies of this game, but you really will just have to try it out for yourself.
Come back when you’re on my level.
