It’s been more than a week since Walt Disney Animation first premiered its 100th anniversary celebratory short film titled Once Upon a Studio, and in that time, fans have learned so much about the inspiration, hard work, nostalgia, and dedication that went into putting together the amazingly beautiful animated spectacle.

The Return of the Music Maker
For starters, we now know that one-half of the talented Sherman Brothers–the gifted composers and lyricists behind a majority of the music and songs in Disney’s classic films–took time to come back to the Disney Studios in Burbank and sit at the piano in Walt Disney’s old office, just like he did decades ago with his brother, Robert. Yes, Richard Sherman returned to Walt’s office, where he wrote a slightly different version of one of Walt’s favorite songs from any Disney film–“Feed the Birds,” also known as “Tuppence a Bag,” from Disney’s 1964 Mary Poppins.
A Hidden Mascot was Part of the Short Film
We also discovered that a mascot from EPCOT at the Walt Disney World Resort was part of Once Upon a Studio.
Per Megan Losey at DisneyDining.com:
“Walt Disney World’s newest famous trash can is Binny, the mascot of the Disney Day Drinkers Club. The Disney Day Drinkers Club, shortened by members to D3, is a community of Disney fans who meet up throughout Walt Disney World to enjoy cocktails and each other’s company. Binny, the club’s mascot, is a Disney trash can found outside of the Rose & Crown Pub in EPCOT’s UK Pavilion.”
Hundreds and Hundreds of Characters . . . No, Seriously!
Variety describes the short film best:
“Conceived and directed by Trent Correy and Dan Abraham, the project involves a live-action walkthrough of the place where the magic happens — that is, where much of the work on Disney’s animated features is done. But there’s an extra sprinkling of magic here as cartoon characters leap out of their frames and wander the halls where they were originally drawn or rendered.”
The hybrid style of animation gave the short film from Walt Disney Animation multiple depths of feelings and nostalgia as fans were taken on a short walk through the Roy O. Disney Animation Building in Burbank.
But perhaps the most amazing thing about the film is something we only recently read–and paid attention to–is the fact that more than 500 characters were included in Once Upon a Studio. In fact, all together, there were 543 Disney characters in the presentation.

There’s Still Time to Watch the Film
Here’s hoping you and yours got to enjoy the heartwarming, nostalgic, beautiful, and Disney character-laden Once Upon a Studio, created by Walt Disney Animation in celebration of the 100th anniversary of The Walt Disney Company. If you haven’t yet seen it–not to worry! Disney has already added the beautiful animated short to the Disney+ streaming catalog, so not only can you watch it now, but you can also watch it, watch it, and re-watch it.
(Yes, it’s that good!)
Sad is that Bambi’s mother didn’t make an appearance. Ruins thu upbeat tone knowing the mommzy isn’t there right beside sweet, innocent and adorable fawn of hers 😕🙁☹️😣😖😫😩😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Technically–thanks to 101 Dalmatians–they can do a 101st anniversary vid with characters they didn’t get to include in this 1. That would give her and many other characters who didn’t get to appear in this 1 a chance to shine immensely as well!
