Universal Orlando is closing a popular location soon!
Universal Orlando Resort is a vacation destination that offers something for everyone. Whether you are a thrill-seeker, a movie buff, or just looking for a fun and relaxing getaway, Universal Orlando has it all. With its three theme parks, on-site accommodations, and dining options, this resort will surely provide a memorable vacation experience.
Universal Orlando is home to two theme parks: Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida, as well as a water park called Volcano Bay, where Guests can beat the heat in the lazy river or wave pool.
Universal sees thousands of Guests daily. With this amount of traffic heading to the Parks, daily wear and tear on attractions, shows, and other locations from time to time need to be refurbished.
Universal also is no stranger to change and new. Universal Orlando is in the process of building a third theme park called Epic Universe, which will open in 2025. Universal Studios Florida is seeing major changes, as well, with a new Minion-themed attraction coming this summer called Villain Con Minion Blast, and a new Minion Cafe will be opening for Guests to enjoy in the same area, as well.
It’s not just Universal Studios Orlando where change is happening. Universal Studios Hollywood recently opened SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and more reported changes are coming to the California theme park, also.
With all this change happening, an iconic Universal Orlando location is closing. Mel’s Drive-In will soon be closing for refurbishment. Universal has yet to announce dates or timeframe of how long this location will be closed.
Universally Addicated tweeted the report:
FYI: We’ve Gotten Word That Mel’s Drive-In Diner Will Be Closed For Refurbishments At The End Of May. No Official Dates Or Timeframe Have Been Announced!
Universal describes Mel’s Drive-in like this: “prepare to rock around the clock at this American Graffiti-inspired 50s drive-in featuring golden oldies on the jukebox and shiny vintage cars out front.”
At the restaurant, you can choose from burgers and fries, chicken sandwiches, chicken fingers, onion rings, root beer floats, and milkshakes. You can Dine inside with at a classic vinyl booth or outside beneath the glow of neon lights. There are rumors that the Minion Cafe could potentially open later in May when this restaurant closes, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
