When the first installment in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise first came out in 2009, nobody knew that he was building a series.
In fact, many fans of the film simply thought it was a one-and-done movie, and despite the film’s outrageous success, many of the details were soon forgotten by the general public.

However, super fans of James Cameron’s Avatar and the world of Pandora continued reading the comics as they came out, creating their own original characters, drawing fan art, writing fanfiction-the works!
Then, nearly fifteen years later, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) appeared in theaters, and audiences flocked (or should we say ‘swam?’) toward the stands.

The film became a long-awaited sequel as soon as the first trailers began playing. But it wasn’t enough to get everyone out of their cozy. recliners at home and into the seats of theaters. A decent amount of people were willing to wait months for Avatar: The Way of Water to make a splash onto streaming services.

Now that the movie has finally made it onto Disney+ and Max (previously ‘HBO Max’), it’s absolutely dominated. According to a report by Deadline, the James Cameron film ascended the ranks and became one of the top-viewed pieces of media that week:
The James Cameron film debuted on both Disney+ and Max on June 7, soaring to the top of Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of June 5 to June 11 and racking up an impressive 1.9B viewing minutes between the two services.

Avatar: The Way of Water stars Zoe Saldaña, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, and Stephen Lang who returns as Colonel Miles Quaritch.
