Actor Tom Hanks Will Keep Making Films After His Death

Tom Hanks says he’ll be making Hollywood blockbusters long after he dies.

Most successful Hollywood actors intend to keep making movies until they die. But actor Tom Hanks–a two-time Academy Award winner and four-time Golden Globe winner–says that won’t stop him, and he will continue his acting career, even after he passes away.

During an interview in an episode of The Adam Buxton Podcast, which was released on Sunday, the Toy Story actor took a dive head-first into the bustling, exciting, terrifying, uncertain realm of artificial intelligence (AI), explaining that the concept is not really anything new.

“This has always been lingering,” Hanks said. “The first time we did a movie that had a huge amount of our own data locked in a computer–literally what we looked like–was a movie called The Polar Express.”

“We saw this coming,” Hanks continued. “We saw that there was going to be this ability in order to take zeros and ones inside a computer and turn it into a face and a character. Now, that has only grown a billionfold since then, and we see it everywhere.”

“I can tell you that there [are] discussions going on in all of the guilds, all of the agencies, and all of the legal firms in order to come up with the legal ramifications of my face and my voice–and everybody else’s–being our intellectual property,” Hanks explained.

“What is a bona fide possibility right now, if I wanted to, [is] I could get together and pitch a series of seven movies that would star me in them in which I would be 32 years old from now until kingdom come,” the actor explained to the podcast host.

“Anybody can now recreate themselves at any age they are, by way of AI or deep fake technology,” Hanks continued. “I could be hit by a bus tomorrow, and that’s it, but my performances can go on and on and on. Outside of the understanding that it’s been done by AI or deep fake, there’ll be nothing to tell you that it’s not me and me alone, and it’s going to have some degree of lifelike quality.”

Tom Hanks will reunite with Robin Wright (Forrest Gump) for a new film with director Robert Zemeckis titled Here. The film, expected to debut in 2024, will be an adaptation of Richard McGuire’s comic set in a singular room over a number of years. In the film, both Hanks and Wright will be de-aged.

The production company for the film is partnering with AI company Metaphysic, which will be responsible for making Hanks and Wright appear much younger than they actually are, thanks to a new tool called Metaphysic Live, which doesn’t rely on VFX or other work to achieve the desired look for the film.
