A New Twist in Disney World’s Refurbishment Schedule for 2025

If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World soon, here’s an update you should know: Disney’s Yacht Club Resort may not be undergoing the room refurbishment that was initially announced. When Disney shared news of the planned updates in April 2024, they mentioned that “some guest rooms” would be under refurbishment from January to May 2025, with most amenities staying open to guests. However, the Disney World website has since removed this specific reference, now only noting that the Yacht and Beach Club resorts are undergoing general refurbishments.

What hasn’t changed is the extended closure of Stormalong Bay, the resort’s beloved pool area that includes the signature Shipwreck Pool. This popular spot for resort guests will remain closed until June 2025, as previously announced. For those who enjoy lounging by the pool or floating along the lazy river, this will be a major loss during their stay.

This isn’t the only project taking place at Walt Disney World in 2025. At Magic Kingdom, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is temporarily closed for an extensive track refurbishment. This closure, which began earlier this month, leaves fans waiting for the return of one of the park’s most exciting attractions. Meanwhile, Animal Kingdom’s Kali River Rapids is also closed as part of its yearly winter maintenance. While this downtime is common during the cooler months, it’s still disappointing for visitors hoping for a thrilling water ride experience.

Resort updates continue at Caribbean Beach Resort, where the Fuentes del Morro Pool is undergoing a short refurbishment. Guests will need to use smaller leisure pools during their stay until the feature pool reopens. Over at Disney’s BoardWalk, several retail shops are also receiving facelifts. The phased renovations, which will continue until May 2025, mean that some shops may be temporarily inaccessible.

For guests with upcoming trips, it’s important to stay updated on Disney’s refurbishment schedule. While these closures may impact your plans, there are still plenty of activities and attractions to enjoy. And if you’re staying at the Yacht or Beach Club, the resorts’ stunning views of Crescent Lake and their convenient access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios make them prime spots for any Disney getaway.
