The Wolfgang Puck name has been part of Downtown Disney and then Disney Springs for nearly three decades. As of this week, it is gone.
That is the piece worth sitting with, because the restaurant that closed only opened in 2018. Eight years is not an era.
But Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill was the last surviving piece of a presence that started when this place was still Downtown Disney.
The original Wolfgang Puck Café opened on the West Side on September 15, 1997. A 22,000 square foot complex, genuinely popular, eventually expanded to include Wolfgang Puck Express.
That café closed permanently on August 1, 2017, and the building was demolished to make way for Jaleo.
Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill opened in Town Center the following year, keeping the name in the district.
Now that is over, too.
The Closure
Final service was Sunday, September 13, 2026. By September 15, the Disney Springs website reflected the closure.
How it became public is the odd part.
Reservation availability disappeared for dates past September 13. Then, cast members began proactively calling guests with reservations on or after September 14, canceling them and offering help booking elsewhere.
Guests were told individually, by phone, before either company said anything publicly. Meanwhile, the Disney Springs listing and Wolfgang Puck’s own site both still showed the restaurant operating normally.
That gap has now closed.
No Replacement Announced
Disney has not commented on what is coming to the space, and no concept has been identified.
That matters because the location is prime. Bar & Grill sat in Town Center next to the Coca-Cola Store, in one of the busiest stretches of the district, with a large full-service footprint rather than a small counter.
A space that size will not sit empty long. But full-service transitions usually run months, not weeks. Expect construction walls before an announcement.
Disney Springs Keeps Losing Locations
Wolfgang Puck joins a long list this year:
- Johnston & Murphy, clothing
- Shore, clothing boutique
- Francesca’s, clothing
- Sprinkles Cupcakes, closed in January
- Both Sunshine Churros kiosks
- The Disney Springs food trucks
The Sprinkles building has since served as pop-up space, first for Black Tap Craft Burgers and Shakes and currently a temporary Ghirardelli store while that brand’s original building is renovated.
That is a district in real transition, with retail turnover running alongside dining turnover.
Why This One Is Different
Most of those closures were small footprints. A cupcake shop, a churro kiosk, a boutique.
Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill was full service, carried a celebrity chef name guests recognized, sat in a prime spot, and took reservations booked months out.
Restaurant closures are not abstract to people who plan Disney trips far in advance. A confirmed reservation is often tied to an anniversary, a birthday, an arrival-night dinner, or a carefully planned Disney Springs evening.
Those plans were canceled by phone on short notice. Disney reportedly offered help with alternatives, though replacing a specific restaurant on a specific night is not always possible here.
If You Had a Reservation
You should have been contacted. If not, and your dates fall after September 13, check My Disney Experience to confirm it is not still showing.
Disney Springs still offers plenty of table service, though availability varies by date, party size, and location.
Worth noting that dining prices across the district have been rising this year, so a replacement may not match the original cost.
What Comes Next
The development to watch is an announcement about the space.
Disney has given no timeline, no concept, and no explanation for the closure. Neither has Wolfgang Puck.
Given the size and location, whatever goes in will be a significant addition rather than a minor one. Worth following even if you never ate there.
For now, a prominent Town Center restaurant is dark, a name attached to this district since 1997 is out, and nobody has said what replaces it.
Nearly thirty years, ended without a public goodbye.
