Disney World Forces Guest Ride Restrictions at Magic Kingdom Following ‘Miserable’ Experiences
Few things are more exciting for Disney fans than racing toward their favorite roller coaster. From high-speed launches to family-friendly thrills, Walt Disney World offers attractions for nearly every age group. Yet for some guests, the biggest challenge begins after they board the ride vehicle.
While height requirements are clearly posted throughout Disney’s parks, some riders have discovered that comfort can be a completely different issue. Depending on a guest’s size or height, certain attractions may be far less accommodating than others.
Disney’s Coaster Lineup Keeps Growing
Walt Disney World has built an impressive collection of roller coasters across its parks.
EPCOT is home to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, a coaster that combines storytelling, music, and rotating vehicles. Magic Kingdom continues to draw crowds with TRON Lightcycle / Run, while Seven Dwarfs Mine Train remains one of Fantasyland’s most popular attractions.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has entertained generations of guests, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios continues attracting families to Slinky Dog Dash in Toy Story Land.
Each of these attractions has a minimum height requirement. However, one of Magic Kingdom’s smallest coasters presents a different challenge entirely.

Barnstormer Creates an Unexpected Problem
The Barnstormer, starring the Great Goofini, was designed with younger guests in mind.
Located in Storybook Circus, the attraction invites riders to join Goofy on a circus-themed flight around a compact coaster track. The current version arrived during the New Fantasyland expansion and replaced the original attraction from Mickey’s Toontown Fair.
For many children, Barnstormer serves as their first roller coaster experience. The ride offers gentle thrills and helps young guests build confidence before moving on to larger attractions.
Adults, however, often tell a different story.

Comfort Can Be Hard To Find
Barnstormer only enforces a minimum height requirement, but many guests feel there is an unofficial comfort limit.
Because the trains are small, taller adults frequently struggle to fit comfortably inside the ride vehicles. Once the lap bar comes down, legroom becomes extremely limited.
Guests often describe having their knees pushed upward or pressed awkwardly against the front of the train. Even though the ride itself is short, the cramped seating position can make every turn and movement feel much more noticeable.
Many parents gladly squeeze into the ride so they can experience it alongside their children. Still, some leave wishing Disney had designed the vehicles with a little more room for adults.

TRON Faces Different Accessibility Concerns
Barnstormer is not the only coaster that sparks discussions about ride design.
TRON Lightcycle / Run continues to draw attention for its unique motorcycle-style seating arrangement. Riders lean forward into the Lightcycle position, creating an experience that looks impressive but does not work equally well for everyone.
Some plus-size guests have difficulty fitting comfortably into the standard vehicles. Disney provides an alternative seat with a more traditional configuration, but that solution comes with its own challenge.
Because the accessible seating option is limited, guests may need to wait for that vehicle to complete its cycle before boarding. After spending a significant amount of time in the regular queue, another delay can feel frustrating.
The issue becomes even more noticeable when standby waits climb beyond an hour.

A Better Experience Should Be Possible
No ride system can perfectly accommodate every guest. Some design limitations are unavoidable.
Even so, many visitors believe Disney should continue looking for ways to improve comfort and accessibility. Parents should be able to ride Barnstormer without feeling cramped, and guests using TRON’s accessible seating should not feel like they are facing an additional obstacle after waiting in line.
Disney continues pushing ride technology forward with every new attraction. Many fans hope future projects place just as much emphasis on accessibility and rider comfort as they do on storytelling and innovation.
