Warning Issued to Disney World Guests: Fan-Favorite Dining Experiences Wiped From Summer Schedule

Disney World vacations during the summer already require a ton of planning. Between early wake-up calls for Lightning Lane reservations, packed park schedules, and dining reservations disappearing weeks in advance, many guests build entire trips around where they plan to eat.

That is why Disney’s newest update may frustrate some visitors heading to Florida in 2026. Walt Disney World has confirmed that two major restaurants will disappear from the lineup for months during one of the resort’s busiest travel periods, and one of them has already closed.

The news arrives at an odd time, as Disney is also preparing for a huge summer filled with new attractions, entertainment, and park additions.

Disney World Is Going Big for Summer 2026

This summer is shaping up to be one of Disney World’s busiest in years when it comes to new experiences.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios alone is getting several major additions. Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets officially debuts this summer, while Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is adding a Mandalorian mission featuring Grogu.

The park is also expanding its animation offerings with The Walt Disney Studios area and the return of The Magic of Disney Animation.

Elsewhere around the resort, EPCOT is opening Soarin’ Across America for a limited run tied to America’s 250th anniversary celebration. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also launching Bluey’s Wild World as part of Cool Kid Summer beginning May 26.

Disney clearly wants guests to feel like there is always something new happening this summer. Unfortunately, that excitement comes with a few notable losses too.

One Popular Spot Is Already Gone

Yachtsman Steakhouse at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort officially closed on May 11, 2026, for refurbishment.

Disney expects the restaurant to stay closed throughout the summer, with reopening planned for sometime in August.

That creates a major dining gap around Crescent Lake. Yachtsman Steakhouse has remained one of Disney World’s most popular signature dining locations for years, especially among adults looking for a quieter meal away from crowded parks.

Its location also made it convenient for guests staying at Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Disney’s BoardWalk area resorts.

Now, one of the area’s biggest restaurants is unavailable during peak vacation season.

Another Restaurant Will Soon Follow

Disney also confirmed that the Grand Floridian Cafe will temporarily close beginning in mid-July 2026.

The refurbishment is expected to continue until sometime in October, meaning guests will lose the restaurant for most of the remaining summer season.

Grand Floridian Cafe has quietly built a strong reputation over the years thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and reliable breakfast and brunch menu. Many guests staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa use it as an easier dining option compared to some of the resort’s more upscale restaurants.

For repeat visitors, it has become part of the traditional Disney World vacation routine.

Why These Closures Matter

Restaurant refurbishments are normal at Disney World. Losing two major restaurants during the summer, however, creates extra pressure across the resort.

Summer remains one of the busiest travel seasons at Walt Disney World, especially for Deluxe Resort guests. When restaurants close, demand quickly shifts to nearby locations.

Guests staying around Yacht Club may now compete for reservations at Ale & Compass, Flying Fish, and Beaches & Cream. Grand Floridian visitors will likely turn toward Citricos, Narcoossee’s, and 1900 Park Fare instead.

That affects more than just resort guests, too. Even visitors staying elsewhere may notice reservations becoming harder to secure as demand spreads across the Disney property.

Guests Still Have Plenty of Dining Options

The good news is Disney World still offers plenty of popular restaurants this summer.

Inside Magic Kingdom, Be Our Guest Restaurant and Cinderella’s Royal Table continue operating normally. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant remains one of the park’s most popular dining spots.

EPCOT guests can still book Space 220, while resort visitors can still access restaurants like California Grill and Sanaa.

Nomad Lounge at Disney’s Animal Kingdom also remains one of the best places on property for guests looking for a quieter break from crowds.

Disney Springs will continue serving as another major dining destination this summer as well. Restaurants like The Boathouse, Wine Bar George, Morimoto Asia, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’, and Raglan Road are all expected to remain popular reservation choices.

Disney’s Summer Dining Crunch Could Get Worse

Disney World is adding plenty of exciting experiences this summer, but the resort is also creating a few challenges.

With Yachtsman Steakhouse already closed and Grand Floridian Cafe preparing to shut down for months, guests may need to plan dining reservations much earlier than usual. Summer crowds are already expected to be heavy, thanks to all the new entertainment and attractions arriving across the parks.

Now, Disney visitors will also compete for fewer restaurant reservations during one of the busiest stretches of the year.
