Shakeup at ‘GMA’: Hosts Facing the Axe Ahead of Summer
Things are heating up behind the scenes at Good Morning America (GMA), as rumors swirl that the morning show may undergo yet another major shake-up. ABC’s morning lineup, once the epitome of stability, is now facing unexpected turbulence, and fans may see some familiar faces replaced by the summer.
It’s no secret that GMA has had its share of challenges in the past couple of years. For a network that prides itself on delivering the most trusted news in the industry, recent months have proven that even the most established brands face periods of uncertainty.

The biggest bombshell dropped in late 2022, when anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes found themselves embroiled in a scandal that made headlines worldwide. The pair, who had been popular fixtures on the morning show, were removed after their affair was revealed, despite both being married to other people at the time.
What started as a temporary suspension for the duo ended in their firing by January 2023.
The replacement of Robach and Holmes was handled in a rather smooth fashion, with DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim stepping in as permanent anchors for GMA3: What You Need to Know. Their arrival seemed to be the perfect fix — both made seamless transitions into their new roles and quickly gained the trust of viewers.

Yet, despite their efforts to keep the show’s ratings up, the tension at ABC News is far from over.
Now, it appears that the show is in for another round of changes. According to a source familiar with the situation, ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic is considering replacing the current GMA3 hosts before the end of summer.
The insider shared with the New York Post that there is a possibility that the ax could fall on both Morgan and Pilgrim. Some even speculate that ABC may look to elevate the biggest stars from the flagship GMA broadcast — Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan, and George Stephanopoulos—into the third hour of the show.
As reported by the New York Post:
The clock is ticking on “Good Morning America 3” hosts DeMarco Morgan and Eva Pilgrim as network brass look to shake up the ratings-challenged show, The Post has learned.
ABC News president Almin Karamehmedovic will likely replace the anchors of the third hour of the marquee morning show by the end of the summer, according to a source with direct knowledge.
However, one source speculated that Karamehmedovic will pull the plug on Morgan and Pilgrim, and possibly bring in new anchors or even tap the highly paid trio from the “GMA” mothership: Robin Roberts, Michael Strahan and George Stephanopoulos.
“’GMA3′ won’t be there at the end of the summer,” the insider said, referring to the current hosts.

This news comes on the heels of significant staff cuts within the ABC News team, which saw nearly 200 employees laid off, with many of the most prominent anchor shows, including Good Morning America, facing substantial changes. The shake-up has left employees stunned, as ABC begins to rework its news division.
For GMA3, the new leadership team now falls under the same umbrella as the core Good Morning America program, signaling even more potential changes on the horizon.
While Morgan and Pilgrim have managed to maintain a steady presence on GMA3, their future remains uncertain. The rumor mill has been buzzing with talks of Strahan, Roberts, and Stephanopoulos taking over GMA3 while ABC seeks a more permanent solution.

Although ABC has not confirmed that Morgan and Pilgrim will be let go, it has been noted that Strahan, Roberts, and Stephanopoulos have all made guest appearances on the show, with plans to feature them again in the future.
Interestingly, Michael Strahan’s contract with GMA is set to expire later this year, fueling speculation that he may be brought in as a temporary replacement on GMA3. If this happens, it could set the stage for a new host lineup while ABC searches for someone to fill Strahan’s role permanently.
With major personalities like Strahan, Roberts, and Stephanopoulos all part of the speculation, there’s no doubt that ABC is looking for a way to reinvigorate the morning show while keeping its ratings competitive.
In the world of television, change is often inevitable, but the GMA brand has always been associated with stability and trust. As these shake-ups unfold, we can only hope that GMA3 emerges from this period of transition with a fresh new format that continues to engage viewers.
