4 Powerhouse IPs Changing Disney World: 2 Major Additions On the Way, and 2 Fans Still Demand
Disney World’s biggest projects increasingly have one thing in common: they’re tied directly to well-known movies and characters. As Disney continues planning for the future, it is leaning heavily on its intellectual property, creating new lands and experiences based on its most recognizable brands.
That strategy is already taking shape across the resort. Two major franchises are receiving significant expansions, while two others remain among the most requested additions from fans. Looking ahead, the next generation of Disney World could be defined by the stories guests already know and love.
Villains Finally Get Their Turn
Few ideas have been requested more often than a dedicated land themed to Disney villains. After years of speculation, Disney officially confirmed that Villains Land is coming to Magic Kingdom.
The expansion will be built beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and will include two major attractions, along with dining, shopping, and themed environments inspired by Disney’s most infamous characters.
Disney has shared only limited details so far, but early concept art points toward a darker atmosphere than anything currently found elsewhere in the park. While the company has not announced an opening date, many fans believe the project could arrive around 2030.
The announcement immediately became one of the most talked-about future additions at Walt Disney World.

EPCOT Fans Continue Campaigning for Coco
While Villains Land is officially happening, another popular idea remains firmly in rumor territory.
Many EPCOT fans continue hoping Disney eventually brings Coco (2017) into the Mexico Pavilion in a much larger way. Over the years, rumors have repeatedly suggested that Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros could someday receive a Coco makeover.
Disney has never announced such a plan, but the conversation continues because many guests believe the franchise naturally fits the pavilion.
The idea of traveling alongside Miguel through the Land of the Dead inside the pyramid remains especially popular. Between the colorful visuals, music, and storytelling opportunities, fans see enormous potential in the concept.
For now, however, it remains one of EPCOT’s most discussed possibilities rather than an official project.

Monstropolis is becoming a reality
Unlike Coco, Monsters, Inc. (2001) is already moving forward.
The franchise has maintained a presence at Disney World through Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor in Tomorrowland. Still, Disney is preparing to expand that footprint dramatically with an entire Monstropolis-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Disney has already confirmed a suspended roller coaster inspired by the film’s famous door vault sequence. Guests will also be able to visit Harryhausen’s, the iconic restaurant from the movie.
Additional experiences, dining locations, and themed environments are expected to round out the land. For Pixar fans, it represents one of Disney World’s most exciting upcoming additions.

Marvel Still Tops Many Wish Lists
Even with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind operating at EPCOT, many fans continue hoping for a larger Marvel presence at Walt Disney World.
The comparison to Disneyland Resort often comes up because Avengers Campus continues expanding on the West Coast. Disney World fans frequently wonder whether Florida could eventually receive something similar.
The challenge remains Universal Orlando Resort’s agreement involving many Marvel characters in Florida theme parks. That situation has limited Disney’s options for years.
Even so, fans continue imagining what could be possible. Ideas often include a Spider-Man attraction, expanded character encounters, or interactive experiences geared toward younger guests.

What’s Next for Disney World?
Disney’s plans for Villains Land and Monstropolis demonstrate where the company is investing its attention. Major franchises continue driving expansion plans across the resort.
At the same time, fan demand for Coco and Marvel shows that guests are already thinking about the next wave of additions.
Whether those requests become reality remains unknown, but Disney World appears committed to building more of its future around recognizable stories and beloved characters. The only question is which franchise will be next.
