Bless actress Halle Bailey’s patience because the world has been testing her ever since her casting as Ariel in Disney’s new live-action remake of The Little Mermaid was announced in 2018. The film’s release is now only weeks away! This weekend at the 2023 Met Gala in New York City, Halle Bailey attended wearing sparkly white Gucci and flagged at least one crazy question that went viral.

An interviewer from The Cut lobbed a hardball question a the Disney Princess that left her mouth hanging open. The interviewer asks, “If you HAD to eat Flounder or Sebastian –  who would you eat?”

Bailey is taken aback for a second and in a true princess fashion, immediately curbs the question with grace and adorable charm, Bailey answers, “I would not eat either of them! They’re my friends!” She laughs a melodic mermaid laugh and thanks the interviewer, who replies, “Fair enough.”

Some fans immediately recognized the true Disney Princess essence and praised Halle Bailey for her totally on-brand response.

She’s such a Disney Princess

Others questioned if The Cut reporter was joking or not maybe got confused about which character Bailey would be playing. Melissa McCarthy is Ursula, duh!

Did this person confuse her with Ursula or what???

Others revealed how they would’ve dealt with the question. Remember, not everybody is a Disney Princess…

I’m a little mermaid fan but I would eat Sebastian and flounder as fish tacos

Other fans added their own visuals to reflect the interaction.

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
