Fantasmic! fans everywhere are beginning to panic!
When it comes to captivating nighttime entertainment at Walt Disney World Resort, Fantasmic! is undoubtedly a frontrunner. Located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Park in Disneyland Resort, Fantasmic! takes guests on a mesmerizing journey into the world of imagination, filled with beloved Disney characters and impressive special effects.
For decades, Fantasmic! has been one of Disney’s most popular offerings, and loyal fans feel incredibly passionate about keeping the show running.
This Could Be Curtains for Fantasmic’s Dragon
Fantasmic! thrives on its mesmerizing special effects. From laser beams that dance across the stage to awe-inspiring fireworks illuminating the night sky, the show offers a visual feast for the audience. The combination of lights, water, fire, and music creates an immersive experience that transports viewers into a world where anything is possible.
Possibly the most famous special effect in the show is the Maleficent dragon. During the climax of the show, Mickey defeats the dragon, and it subsequently bursts into flames. The moment is both captivating and awe-inspiring, and fans simply cannot get enough.
However, earlier this year, this part of the show had a bit of a technical issue over at Disneyland Park. Something with Meleficent’s mechanics went wrong, and the fire-breathing dragon suddenly was engulfed by flames. The tragedy resulted in Disneyland Resort retiring the use of the dragon and putting the show on hold until they could find a suitable replacement.
Could Walt Disney World Follow Disneyland’s Fate?
This event is one of the reasons why Guests were shocked to notice the absence of Maleficent during the show at Walt Disney World Resort last night. One Guest posted;
“Fantasmic – Maleficent’s dragon missing on Aug 30?
Did they play a B show tonight because of the hurricane? Or do they simply have two versions of the show and we for the B show tonight because it’s a Wednesday? Just curious. Show was still excellent.”

While it is totally understandable why this Guest might have panicked, there is a much less scary explanation. This week, Florida was hit by Hurricane Idalia, a category-four hurricane. The harsh wind and heavy rain were likely the true cause of the dragon’s disappearance.
Hopefully, the storm blows over soon enough so Guests can get back to enjoying Fantasmic! in its full glory.
