Universal Permanently Closes Jurassic Park Restaurant for Massive 2027 Overhaul

Guests visiting Universal Islands of Adventure this summer may want to make one more stop inside Jurassic Park before a major change takes over the land forever. One of the area’s most recognizable dining locations is officially on its way out, and the replacement sounds far bigger than most fans probably expected.

Universal has confirmed that Thunder Falls Terrace will permanently close in its current form later this summer. When it eventually returns in 2027, guests won’t be walking back into the same quick-service restaurant they’ve known for years. Instead, the location is being transformed into an entirely new dining concept that Universal plans to position as the signature full-service restaurant for Islands of Adventure.

That’s a huge shift for a location many guests simply viewed as a convenient lunch stop beside Jurassic Park River Adventure.

Thunder Falls Terrace Is About To Change Completely

For longtime Universal Orlando fans, Thunder Falls Terrace has always been tied closely to the classic Jurassic Park section of the park. The restaurant became known for its rotisserie chicken platters, covered outdoor seating, and one of the best views in Islands of Adventure thanks to its position overlooking the River Adventure splashdown.

It never had the prestige of Mythos, but it quietly became one of the park’s most dependable food locations.

Now, Universal appears ready to elevate the space into something much larger.

The company has not officially revealed what the new restaurant will look like or whether the Thunder Falls Terrace name will survive the overhaul. But turning the venue into a full-service dining experience immediately changes the role the location plays inside the park.

Instead of functioning as a quick meal stop between attractions, the new Jurassic Park restaurant could become one of the main destination dining experiences at Universal Orlando.

The Timing Around Mythos Feels Important

What makes this announcement especially interesting is that it arrived alongside another massive Islands of Adventure update.

Universal also confirmed that all remaining venues and experiences inside Lost Continent will close in 2027, including the legendary Mythos restaurant.

That instantly sparked speculation among fans that the two announcements are directly connected.

For years, Mythos has carried a reputation as one of the best theme park restaurants anywhere in the industry. It became one of the defining experiences of Islands of Adventure itself. Losing it creates a huge opening for Universal, especially if the resort still wants a flagship sit-down restaurant inside the park.

That’s where Thunder Falls Terrace suddenly makes a lot more sense.

Many fans now believe the new Jurassic Park dining concept could absorb portions of Mythos’ identity moving forward. Some suspect Universal may transfer culinary staff or operational leadership over to the new venue once Lost Continent officially shuts down. Others believe the menu itself could evolve into something more upscale and Mythos-inspired.

Universal has not confirmed any of that, but the timing is difficult to ignore.

Jurassic Park Keeps Growing in Importance

The Jurassic franchise has become one of Universal’s most valuable properties, and the company continues investing heavily into it across the parks.

Jurassic World VelociCoaster transformed the entire side of Islands of Adventure when it opened. Merchandise locations expanded. Character interactions became more prominent. Seasonal offerings increased. Even smaller updates around the land have steadily pushed Jurassic Park into a more premium direction.

A large-scale signature restaurant fits perfectly into that strategy.

And honestly, the physical location already has the atmosphere needed to support something special.

The area surrounding Thunder Falls Terrace feels isolated from the rest of the park in a good way. Waterfalls, jungle-style landscaping, roaring dinosaurs, and River Adventure boats crashing nearby already create one of the most immersive dining backdrops anywhere at Universal Orlando.

If Universal fully commits to the overhaul, this could easily become one of the hardest dining reservations to secure across the entire resort.

Islands of Adventure Is Quietly Entering a New Era

There’s also a bigger picture developing here.

Over the past decade, Universal has slowly phased out many of the original elements that defined Islands of Adventure when it first opened. Lost Continent shrinking after the arrival of Harry Potter marked the beginning of that transition. Now, the remaining pieces of the land appear to be reaching the end as well.

That leaves Jurassic Park positioned to become even more important to the identity of the park moving forward.

And unlike the original version of Jurassic Park land that focused mostly on atmosphere and exploration, Universal now seems more interested in creating major anchor experiences that keep guests planted inside the area longer.

A signature restaurant accomplishes exactly that.

Guests may soon spend entire evenings inside Jurassic Park rather than simply riding VelociCoaster and moving on to the next attraction.

What Happens Next?

Thunder Falls Terrace is expected to close sometime this summer, though Universal has not announced an exact final operating date yet.

Construction will likely continue well into 2027 before the new restaurant officially opens. Given the scale of the transformation being described, fans should probably expect major changes both inside and outside the building.

For now, though, one thing has become clear: Jurassic Park is no longer just home to attractions. Universal appears ready to turn the land into one of the resort’s biggest dining destinations too.

And with Mythos preparing to disappear, the next iconic Universal restaurant may already be taking shape right beside the dinosaurs.
