Just a few days ago the world was shocked when reports surfaced that musician and former Disney Channel star, Joe Jonas, filed for divorce from Game of Thrones actress and wife of four years, Sophie Turner. Turner (27), known best by audiences as Sansa Stark and the middle Jonas Brother (34) are officially calling it quits, and fans’ heads are spinning from all the “speculative narratives.”

And people are not happy about how information seems to be putting the blame on Sophie. First, Joe Jonas posted a picture of himself on his Instagram amidst the divorce rumors, prominently wearing his wedding ring – which fans ran with.

Everyone wants a satisfying explanation for the shocking news. Media outlets capitalized on this public need and reported that Sophie was off filming in England and having a social life, while Joe was “taking care of both of the kids.” Joy Behar from The View called out the insidious sexist undertones of this narrative, saying, “I think the spin of this that bothers me is: she’s working, he’s working. These weren’t new careers. They met on these terms.” Ironically, other circulating gossip blames the split on Turner being a “homebody” while Jonas wanted to party.

Other rumors say that Sophie desperately wanted to return to her home country in England, and Joe was reluctant. Others claim Jonas “overheard something on their Ring camera” that led to the end of the marriage. Some people are blaming it on the seven year age difference between the two, speculating that Sophie never wanted to be a mother. As the general public does not actually know the couple intimately, the cause for the divorce can not be confirmed at this time.
