Stop the presses, Vin Diesel claims there is a secret version of every Marvel Cinematic Universe script involving Groot that series director James Gunn prepares for Diesel’s eyes only! One of the interviewers asks Diesel how he manages to put so much emotion and intention behind the only phrase Groot ever says, “I am Groot.”

Vin Diesel reveals,

I’m lucky, in that James Gunn would always write a script that had the line that was intended. So, I am the only person in the world that has this script. But there’s a line of dialogue for every single “I am Groot,” and sometimes it’s a whole paragraph. I’m really lucky, so I have to give it up to James.

That’s pretty impressive and a cool insight into some behind-the-scenes magic! The interviewer agrees it seems like a great tool to have as an actor for a character with such a limited vocabulary.

Diesel also mentioned that at every Guardians of the Galaxy premiere, he wears a Groot-inspired suit jacket that he later donates to charity! Vin Diesel says the jacket “speaks for itself.”

The final Guardians also stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper as Groot’s BFF Rocket Raccoon, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, and Dave Bautista as Drax. The film hits movie theaters officially on May 5! The story promises to give audiences some of Rocket Raccoon’s backstory, Peter Quill dealing with Gamora’s death, and some time jumping.

About Lana Porter

Lana has never lost a Disney Trivia night. Maybe it’s the hundreds of times she’s been to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, her love for Disney’s ’90’s era hand-animated musicals, or the fact that she’s often likened to cartoon characters, but Disney and its magic have a special place in her heart. Her favorite Disney experiences include the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, eating Mickey Bars on the PeopleMover, and crying during the Magic Kingdom fireworks show. One day she hopes to be chosen as the rebel spy on Star Tours. When Lana isn’t Park Hopping, she’s at home reading books of all topics, watching her favs on Disney+, or snuggling her two cats, which she swears are not named after Disney characters. She loves surprising people with her knowledge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe but admits she is still catching up with Star Wars. She is happy to combine her excitement for writing with her love for Disney-style storytelling and share what she can with the world!
