To the shock and heartbreak of many fans, Disney will not be paneling this year’s Comic-Con convention.
San Diego Comic-Con, held annually at the San Diego Convention Center, has been a mecca for pop culture fans for over 50 years. It’s the place where fans can get an initial look at upcoming projects, attend panels, meet actors, and immerse themselves in the world of their favorite movies, TV shows, comics, and books. However, fans were disappointed when it was announced that Disney, one of the biggest names in entertainment, would not be participating in the 2023 Comic-Con.
Disney Ditches Beloved Fan Event
Disney is usually one of the most highly anticipated panels at Comic Con. Usually, the company uses this platform to relay exciting new details to fans. However, this year they have decided to rescind their attendance.
Disney’s decision to skip Comic-Con is not entirely surprising, given the recent changes in the industry. Right now, the industry is being massively shaken up due to the writers’ strike. Many fans and experts believe that Disney is pulling out mainly due to the looming actors’ strike.

Right now, members of the SAG-AFTRA union are planning to strike unless negotiations can be completed by June 30. If they are not, Hollywood will be at a complete standstill.
Disney Doesn’t Stand Alone
It is not just Disney whose absence will be missed this year. Netflix, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, and HBO will also not be in attendance. These are all significant panels to be losing at such a high-profile event, and it is understandably very upsetting news for many fans who already planned their trip.
Nevertheless, the convention will still go on as planned and will still be a ton of fun. Amazon, Warner Bros., Max, Paramount Pictures, and NBC/Peacock are still planning to attend as of now. The event will take place from July 20 through July 23, 2023.
