Splash Mountain Forced to Shut Down When Log Floods

Splash Mountain Flood

At this point, pretty much every Disney fan knows that Splash Mountain is getting a Princess and the Frog retheme at both Disneyland Park in California and the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The change has been a controversial one, but Disney is moving ahead, and Splash Mountain will close at both Resorts in 2023 and reopen as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in late 2024.

With the Princess and the Frog retheme on everyone’s mind, many Disney Park Guests feel that Disney letting ride repairs fall by the wayside. Not too long ago, a Guest rode Splash Mountain in Walt Disney World and made a list of everything that was broken on the attraction — and the list was quite long. Other Guests have frequently shared stories of being evacuated from the attraction because the log they were sitting in became completely flooded.

This new story that is making the rounds is a little different than the others. TikToker Mike Molinari (@mikemolinari) uploaded a video of himself riding Splash Mountain. His log had made it through most of the ride, then the bigger drops came. On the first drop, a massive amount of water went into the log.

According to Mike’s video and his comments, the log became so flooded after the two drops, that Disney was forced to temporarily shut down the attraction. You can see a large amount of water splashing by his feet after the first drop.

You can watch Mike’s video below:

Hopefully, Disney will be able to fix these recurring problems when the ride undergoes its complete transformation. We do not know the exact date that the ride will open as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland and Disney World, but here’s what we do know, courtesy of Disney Parks Blog:

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, guests will join Princess Tiana, Naveen and jazz-loving alligator Louis on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind Mardi Gras celebration where everyone is welcome. Along the way, guests will encounter familiar faces, make new friends and travel through the bayou to original music inspired by songs from the film as they are brought into the next chapter of Tiana’s story.

We are almost done with 2022 (hard to believe!) and that means that Splash Mountain will close for its retheme before we know it. So, if you want to ride it again before its Princess and the Frog makeover, then we suggest you book a trip as soon as you can!
