A severe thunderstorm brought an unexpected twist to a performance of the Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular at Disney’s Hollywood Studios yesterday, leaving guests with a memorable but abbreviated show.
According to eyewitnesses, the afternoon thunderstorm rolled in just as the performance was set to begin, leading to an unusual turn of events. The show commenced as scheduled with the opening temple scene, featuring Indiana Jones narrowly escaping a massive boulder. However, shortly after this thrilling start, the “director” made an announcement that the show would be cut short due to lightning in the area.

The director cast member explained that due to safety concerns and the inability to move the set pieces in the storm, the rest of the show had to be canceled. Despite the disruption, guests were invited to stay in the theater to seek shelter from the storm. This offer allowed the audience to remain safe and dry while the production crew dealt with the situation.
Witnesses shared that the Indiana Jones stunt actor remained onsite to interact with guests, taking pictures and signing autographs, which added a personal touch to the unexpected turn of events. Meanwhile, the production crew utilized the opportunity to reset the temple scene and fire off the prepped pyrotechnics for later scenes, creating a few dramatic booms as a consolation for the canceled performance. One guest recounted the experience, noting:
“Well this was a first for me, but I think they made the best of the situation given the circumstances.
Just before the show began, a thunderstorm broke out (Florida afternoon summer showers as we all know and love). The opening temple scene played out, Indy got smushed by the boulder but survived. The “director” introduced the Indy stunt actor and then broke the unfortunate news that due to lightning in the area, they were unable to move the sets and thus had to cancel the rest of the show. Because it was the final show of the day anyway, the audience was invited to remain in the theater to shelter from the storm as long as we wished. The Indy stunt actor hung around and took pictures and signed autographs for whoever wanted them. Got to watch the production crew reset the temple scene completely. The production crew then fired off all the pyro for the other two later scenes in a couple nice booms. (I’ve since learned that once pyro is primed it MUST be fired regardless if the show happens or not, for safety reasons). It’s been about 30 minutes and a handful of people including myself are just chilling here in the stands under the Big Ass Fans. At least I’m staying dry.”
