Scarlett Johansson Reveals Her Dream Role in ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’
With Jurassic World Rebirth set to hit theaters on July 2, 2025, the franchise’s seventh installment is introducing a brand-new era — and a new cast of characters. Gone are familiar faces like Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing, or even the legendary trio of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. Instead, Rebirth boasts a fresh ensemble led by none other than Scarlett Johansson, who stars as Zora Bennett, a covert operations expert on a perilous mission involving dinosaurs.
Johansson, widely recognized for her portrayal of Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, steps into a vastly different role in Jurassic World Rebirth. Her character, Zora Bennett, is tasked with a high-stakes, top-secret mission to extract genetic material from three of the world’s most massive dinosaurs. But in true Jurassic fashion, things don’t exactly go as planned.
When Zora and her team find themselves stranded on a mysterious island teeming with genetically engineered dinosaurs, survival becomes the top priority. The film’s setup promises the same blend of tension and chaos that has defined the Jurassic franchise since its inception — only this time, it’s led by a character as fierce and skilled as Johansson’s Zora Bennett.
In a recent interview with TODAY, Scarlett Johansson expressed nothing short of pure excitement about finally joining the Jurassic franchise.
“My life-long dream has always been to participate in Jurassic in any way – I was like, ‘I will do your craft service, I’ll be a dinosaur,’ I was like, ‘Just put the dots all over me, I’ll be that person, the mo-cap person’. It was a crazy ride.”
Johansson’s candid enthusiasm highlights just how much this role means to her. After all, for many fans and actors alike, stepping into the Jurassic universe — with its towering T-Rexes and terrifying velociraptors — feels like a dream come true.
The actress also shared details about the whirlwind production process, describing the shoot as “a crazy ride.” Filming took place across stunning international locations, including Thailand, Malta, and the UK. “We shot it for the last five months or something like that,” Johansson said, joking that the film feels like it’s “coming out tomorrow” despite its July 2025 release date.

While much of Jurassic World Rebirth remains shrouded in secrecy, Johansson’s role as Zora Bennett marks a significant departure from the franchise’s previous protagonists. Unlike Owen Grady, who worked as a dinosaur trainer, or Alan Grant, a paleontologist, Zora’s background as a covert operations expert brings a new level of intensity and strategy to the table.
Zora’s mission to extract genetic material from the planet’s most fearsome dinosaurs suggests a dangerous mix of science, action, and intrigue. The stakes are higher than ever as Zora and her team face off against creatures far beyond their control. Adding another layer of suspense, survivors of a capsized boat join the chaos, raising questions about the island’s true nature and the lurking threats.
With Johansson leading the charge, Jurassic World Rebirth promises to revitalize the beloved franchise with fresh faces, jaw-dropping action, and, of course, larger-than-life dinosaurs.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Rebirth features a star-studded ensemble alongside Johansson. The cast includes Jonathan Bailey (Bridgerton), Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln Lawyer), Rupert Friend (Obi-Wan Kenobi), Mahershala Ali (Green Book), and Luna Blaise (Manifest).
The film’s July release date suggests that a trailer could drop within the next few months. While fans anxiously await their first look at Johansson’s Zora Bennett and the film’s breath-taking visuals, excitement continues to build around what’s being called “a new Jurassic era.”
