Disney Genie+ boasts a service that will allow Walt Disney World park guests “More Time Enjoying the Magic.” But exactly how much are Disney fans willing to pay for the service? Rumors are swirling, predicting more money will come out of park guests’ pockets soon with a tiered Genie+ system.

Disney Genie+ Service

Long gone are the days of the pre-COVID free FastPass+ system, which allowed guests to skip the standby line for attractions at a select arrival time within the four Walt Disney World parks, including Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The current skip-the-line feature is known as the Disney Genie+ service. And no, it’s not free like FastPass+ was… instead guests will pay anywhere from $15 to $35 per person.

This service lets you use the Lightning Lane entrances at select Disney Park attractions and experiences. Guests can expect to enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day using Lightning Lane entrances if the first selection is made early in the day.

Genie+ service is not to be confused with individual Lightning Lane attractions, which are select rides not included in Genie+. To skip the line on these very popular attractions, guests can pay an a la carte fee for the attraction with pricing based on crowd levels.

Genie+ Changes Ahead

The extremely controversial system at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort is said to be changing in the near future.

First shared in May 2023, Disney announced:

“We have heard from Guests that they would like ways to plan with Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane selections before the day of their park visit, and we want you to know we are working on ways Guests may do this for visits in 2024. Our goal is to give you the opportunity to spend less time planning in the park and more time enjoying your visit with friends and family. While we are not yet able to share specific details, we look forward to sharing more information at a later date.”

Currently, the Disney Genie+ service is offered as an add-on to your ticket, but unlike the former FastPass+ system, attraction selections can not be made in advance. Now, with Genie+, guests book attractions on the go, making it extremely difficult to plan a park day around entertainment, dining reservations, park hopping, and more.

Genie+ Tier System

While Genie+ is currently one set price per person, fans are predicting there may be a change to the feature coming soon.

Not only are we seeing ticket prices increase and free water park admission for Disney Resort guests, but there could be a real possibility that some of the changes Disney mentions above could impact how they sell Genie+ to leveled guests, such as those staying at one of their onsite resorts.

In a recent Reddit thread about Walt Disney World, one user notes, “Prediction: Disney will introduce a new Genie+ tier for advanced bookings” with the following message:

Disney has announced that Genie+ bookings will be supported in advance of your stay at some point this year.

The assumption seems to be you will get like 2-3 advanced slots and maybe some other timing benefits if staying onsite.

Based on how “cheap” Genie is (sometimes cheaper than an adult beverage!) and how insanely priced Universal’s equivalent is, I think they will introduce a new tier that’s maybe 2x the cost of same day bookings if not more.

Why? Because not doing it will leave money on the table. Not exactly the Disney Parks MO recently.

The Reddit thread is filled with thoughts on the rumored Genie+ tiered system.

Some believe it will help fix the broken system that already has seen incredibly long lines in what should be shortened paid wait times. Others are tired of the “Disney Parks MO” of not leaving money on the table.

Disney Genie+ to Copy the Universal Express Pass?

The higher price for a similar service seems to work for Disney’s top Orlando competitor, Universal. Universal’s Express Pass offers a tired option for its guests, with a perk of free line-skipping service for guests staying at select deluxe-level Universal Resorts.

Will Disney copy Universal’s Express Pass system? Only time will tell if these rumors about a Genie+ tiered system is Disney’s next move. As always, we’ll report back when Disney shares a Genie+ update!

Do you think the Disney Genie Plus feature should become a tiered system? Let us know in the comments.

  1. Considering how expensive it is to stay on-site, it seems fair that those guests receive wait free access to ay least the most popular attractions.
