Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is nearing the end of its run, but before its much-anticipated transformation, Walt Disney World Resort guests are raising concerns over its deteriorating condition. The iconic Disney’s Hollywood Studios coaster, which has thrilled visitors since 1999, is showing increasing signs of wear as its closure date remains uncertain.
A Ride Facing Uncertainty
For years, speculation swirled about whether Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster would receive a retheme, with theories intensifying after Disneyland Paris reimagined its version into Avengers Assemble: Flight Force in 2022. Beyond its aging infrastructure, the ride has also been at the center of controversy due to allegations against Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, casting doubt over its continued presence in the theme park.
In November, Walt Disney World Resort officially confirmed that the Muppets would take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, marking a significant shift for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The change is part of a broader park overhaul, which includes the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D and Muppets Courtyard to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. (2001)-themed area.
Maintenance Issues Spark Guest Concerns
Although an official closure date has yet to be revealed, guests have begun to notice the ride’s worsening state. During a recent visit, a Disney Dining team member documented peeling paint and a visibly deteriorating ceiling panel in the attraction’s line.
In the past, Walt Disney World Resort was quick to repair minor cosmetic issues, but recent neglect is raising eyebrows. Prior damage was previously repaired, including peeled paint and guest-scraped messages in the queue walls. Still, the attraction’s current state suggests Disney may be holding off on further maintenance as it prepares for the ride’s transformation.
What’s Next for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster?
Muppet*Vision 3D is set to close on June 7, 2025, but Disney has not yet provided a timeline for when Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will close for its retheme. Until then, guests can still experience its high-speed thrills—if they can overlook the visible wear and tear.
