Iconic Writer Says He Is “Done” With ‘Toy Story’

In 1995, The Walt Disney Company and Pixar Animation Studios teamed up and changed the film industry when they released Toy Story, the first feature-length film created entirely by computer animation. Since then, Pixar has released nearly three dozen more films and is considered one of the premiere animation studios in the world.

Fans have flocked to theaters to see Pixar’s hit films, including Monsters, Inc. (2001), Finding Nemo (2003), Ratatouille (2007), Up (2009), Inside Out (2015), and Coco (2017). In fact, Pixar’s newest movie, Inside Out 2, is the highest-grossing film of the year and occupies the number ten spot for the highest-grossing movie of all time.

Despite all of its success, Pixar will also be known for its Toy Story franchise. After the release of the first film in the franchise, Disney and Pixar released three more films in 1999, 2010, and 2019. While the first three films are considered the best, the fourth one still performed well—so well that Disney and Pixar are currently working on a fifth film featuring Buzz Lightyear, Sheriff Woody, and all of their friends.

However, one legendary writer thinks there is zero need to create more Toy Story movies and that Toy Story 4 was unnecessary.

Quentin Tarantino has been a top writer and producer in Hollywood for decades and is the mind behind hit movies like Pulp Fiction (1994), Reservoir Dogs (1992), the Kill Bill franchise, Django Unchained (2012), and Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (2019).

During a recent interview, Tarantino spoke about how much he loves the first three movies in the franchise but can’t stand the fact that there is a fourth movie. He also has no intention of seeing any future Toy Story films.

“In the case of Toy Story , the third one is just magnificent. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.”

Toy Story 5 is expected to be released on June 19, 2026. Tim Allen and Tim Hanks have been asked to return to voice Buzz Lightyear and Woody. According to IMDB, Blake Clark is also expected to return as the voice of Slinky Dog. The story will have a more tech-related plot line, including the use of modern technology like tablets.

Toy Story 5 is being written by Andrew Stanton, who will also serve as the film’s director, alongside McKenna Harris.

In addition to Toy Story 5, Disney and Pixar also have several other films in the works, including Elio (2025), Hoppers (2026), and Incredibles 3, which does not yet have a release year.

Elio tells the story of a young boy who is abducted by aliens who think he is the representative of the human race. The movie stars Zoe Saldana as Aunt Olga, Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa, Brad Garrett Lord Gringon, and Yonas Kibreab as the voice of Elio. Elio is written and directed by Adrian Molina, as co-directed by Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi (Turning Red).

Hoppers — despite its title — is not the sequel to A Bug’s Life (1998). Instead, it tells the story of scientists who have discovered how they can “hop” their consciousness into the bodies of lifelike robotic animals. This allows the scientists to speak to the animals and uncover more secrets of the animal kingdom than they ever thought possible.

Hoppers will star Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan, and Piper Curda. Daniel Chong is writing and directing it, and Jesse Andrews is co-screenwriting.
