When Will ‘Inside Out 2’ Come to Disney+?

In 1995, The Walt Disney Company teamed up with Pixar Animation Studios and released Toy Story, the first feature-length film to be completely computer-animated. This completely changed the film industry. Since then, the two studios have worked together to create more animated classics, including A Bug’s Life (1998), Finding Nemo (2003), Ratatouille (2007), WALL-E (2008), Brave (2012), Coco (2017), and so many more.

Disney officially bought Pixar in 2006.

Unfortunately, things took a drastic turn when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020. Pixar’s newest film, Onward, had only been in theaters for a couple of weeks before the movie theaters closed down. Its next three films, Soul (2020), Luca (2021), and Turning Red (2022) were not even released in theaters.

Sadly, when Lightyear (2023) hit theaters, it was a massive flop, and Elemental (2023) also flopped at the box office but thrived when it was released on Disney+.

Things were looking dire for a while, but that all changed on June 14, 2024, when Pixar’s newest sequel, Inside Out 2, hit theaters. The film was expected to do well, but it blew past all expectations, making nearly three times more than anticipated at the box office.

Less than one month later, Inside Out 2 was breaking records left and right. Just two weeks after its release, the movie became the first animated film in history to make $100 million at the box office in its second weekend.

Two weeks later, Inside Out 2 became the most successful film in Pixar’s history, surpassing Incredibles 2 (2018). It also became the fourth highest-grossing animated film of all time. With the film still performing well in theaters, it could even move up on that list, becoming the second or third-highest-grossing animated film ever.

Fans can’t seem to get enough of Inside Out 2, which has many people wondering when the movie will be released on Disney+.

Pixar President Jim Morris has said that the movie will have a 100-day theatrical run, meaning it will be on the big screen until at least September 22. However, it is unlikely the movie will hit Disney+ immediately following the end of its theatrical run.

If we compare it to Wish (2023), there is a chance that Inside Out 2 won’t premiere on the streaming platform until Halloween or later. Wish did not premiere on Disney+ until 133 days after its theatrical premiere. And it was not in theaters for as long as Inside Out 2 will be.

Then, there is Moana 2 to take into consideration. The highly-anticipated Disney sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on November 27 and is also expected to perform well. However, Disney will not want to dissuade audiences from going to the theater by releasing Inside Out 2 around the same time. So, it’s possible they will decide to hold off and release it after Thanksgiving.

Disney has not yet announced an official Disney+ premiere date for Inside Out 2. But it would not be surprising if they held off and decided to release the movie around the holidays. That way, it won’t compete with Moana 2 and can be a film that families will decide to enjoy while they are spending time together.
