Planning a trip to Disneyland Resort is always an exciting experience. It’s fun to plan what foods you will indulge in, what rides are a priority, and think about what amazing merchandise you will add to your collection. Unfortunately, sometimes not all of the rides and attractions will be open during your time at the Parks. The rides undergo such heavy usage every single day that routine maintenance is necessary. Before heading down to the Happiest Place on Earth, it is important to check to see if any rides will not be operational.
Beginning March 14, one of Disneyland’s most popular rides will be down for at least a week. According to the Disneyland Resort website, Pirates of the Caribbean — located in New Orleans Square — will close for refurbishment. At this time, the refurbishment calendar only goes through March 24 and the ride is listed as closed until then.
Pirates of the Caribbean has been open at Disneyland Park since 1967 and has undergone several major changes since its opening. In 2006, after the success of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Disney slightly changed the ride’s script and added Captain Jack Sparrow to multiple scenes throughout the ride. Then in 2018, Disney changed the Bride Auction scene to one where the Pirates — including a fiery redhead — were auctioning off the goods of the people from the village they have sacked.
Pirates of the Caribbean will not be the only attraction that will be closed at Disneyland Resort at that time. According to Disney’s calendar, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage in Fantasyland, Tarzan’s Treehouse in Adventureland, and Sailing Ship Columbia will also be closed. Tarzan’s Treehouse has been closed since last month, and Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage has been closed since the Parks reopened. Disney had originally planned to open Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage this past winter, but that reopening was delayed, and no reopening date has been given at this time.
