While Guests flock to Walt Disney World Resort to enjoy Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom… there is one Disney Park that is closed indefinitely.
With four theme parks and the shopping, dining, and entertainment district known as Disney Springs, in the cooler months, itβs easy to forget that Walt Disney World is home to two impressive Water Parks, including Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon.

Disneyβs Blizzard Beach Water Park reopened on November 13, 2022, after a 10-plus month refurbishment which resulted in new touches of the popular Disney animated film, Frozen (2013) and Frozen II (2019). With Frozen III in the works, Blizzard Beachβs popularity will continue to soar.
Unfortunately, when one of the Water Parks doors finally opened, the other, Disneyβs Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, closed for its turn for refurbishment. Almost four months after Typhoon Lagoonβs gates closed on November 13, 2022, weβre seeing a peek inside the empty Disney Park.
Check out the unique aerial view into the currently closed Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. @bioreconstruct took to social media on February 14, 2023, to report, “Aerial look at refurbishment of Typhoon Lagoon. Surf Pool is drained, with wood on the concrete for equipment to service the wave generator.”

The image above shows the massive Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, which formerly produced 6-foot waves, now fully drained with construction equipment sprinkled throughout the Water Park. The iconic Typhoon Tilly structure seemingly remains untouched. Other Typhoon Lagoon fan favorites, such as the Crush βnβ Gusher, Castaway Creek lazy river, Ketchakiddee Creek, and Miss Adventure Falls, remain eerily empty without Guests.
Unfortunately, Disney has yet to offer an opening date for Typhoon Lagoon Water Park or noted refurbishment plans. It would be wonderful to have both Disney Water Parks, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, open this summer in time for the brutal central Florida sun.
As always, we will be sure to keep Disney Dining readers updated as we learn more about Typhoon Lagoon theme park during this time of refurbishment, as well as whatβs to come for the stunning Water Park.
