On November 12, the inhabitants of Batuu — the planet Guests find themselves on when they visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge — will celebrate Life Day. Now, Life Day is not a holiday that we have here on Earth, but it is a very important day to one species in particular — Wookiees. The celebration mainly takes place on the planet of Kashyyyk, where the Wookiees live, but this year, it will also be celebrated on Batuu.
One of the most popular spots on Batuu is Oga’s Cantina, a bar where visitors can purchase drinks like the Fuzzy Tauntaun — which will leave your tongue feeling all kinds of tingly — and the Jedi Mind Trick. Normally, there are only a couple of snack items available for purchase, but on Life Day, there will be two specialty menu items.
The first specialty item available will be a pork belly slider skewer — which will consist of pork belly, bao buns, zucchini sauce, Calabrian chili compote, and Za’atar Spice. Even though the dish does contain Calabrian peppers, they are not overly spicy peppers, so the dish can be enjoyed by those who can handle a little bit of heat that won’t be overwhelming.
The second offering will be a Gin-Huckleberry cocktail, a perfect accompaniment to the pork belly slider. Huckleberries have a similar flavor profile to a blueberry, which will be the perfect cool down after the bold spices that are a part of the skewer.
Here is more information on Life Day from the popular Star Wars site Wookieepedia.
Life Day was a Wookiee holiday celebrated by the inhabitants of Kashyyyk. It was a celebration of the planet’s diverse ecosystem and the many forms of life it encompassed. It was also a time to remember family members who had died, and the young ones who continued to bring new life to a family. Life Day was a sacred holiday, and many Wookiees considered it their duty to return to Kashyyyk in order to celebrate it. Life Day was held once every three local years for many generations, but it became celebrated more frequently as its popularity slowly grew to the wider galaxy. Despite its name, the holiday could also be celebrated over the course of at least a couple days.
Life Day will happen for one day only on Batuu, so if you are visiting the galaxy on November 12, be sure to make your reservations at Oga’s to try these limited-time menu items!
