One of the most popular Walt Disney World Resort attractions, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, has officially put a pause on its virtual queue process as of today, September 23, 2021. Now, Rise of the Resistance is a standby line experience with no boarding pass required. Lines gathered for Disney’s Hollywood Studio rope drop as a massive crowd of Guests makes a mad dash to the attraction entrance in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

As reported by Ashley Carter via Twitter on September 23: “Today is the first day that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be using a standby queue. Here’s a look at the rope drop crowd for Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”
Carter goes on to share another photo with: “Another look at the rope drop crowd for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Rise of the Resistance is using a standby queue today.”
Now that Disney’s Hollywood Studios is officially open for the day, the first-ever Standby wait time listed for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is currently a 75-minute wait as noted in the tweet below. Although, currently, the wait times listed on the My Disney Experience App state the standby wait is 150 minutes.
Walt Disney World’s website currently notes: “Virtual Queue Paused Beginning September 23, 2021: Beginning September 23, 2021, use of the virtual queue will be paused at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Guests may experience the attraction using a traditional standby queue. Availability of a standby queue may be limited and is subject to change at any time without notice. The virtual queue may be used again at a later date or from time to time. Experiencing the attraction is not guaranteed. Check the My Disney Experience app before your visit to learn whether a virtual or standby queue will be required or available on the date and time of your visit. Virtual Queue Required through September 22, 2021: Through September 22, 2021, Guests are required to join the virtual queue to experience Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. A standby queue is not available. The virtual queue is limited and subject to availability.”
Keep in mind, this pausing of the virtual queue boarding group for Rise of Resistance is currently only noted to take place at the one Disney Park – in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – as the virtual queue system for Disneyland’s Rise of the Resistance remains.
Do you prefer having the chance to wait in a standby line to enjoy this popular attraction? Or did you prefer the 7:00 am EST wake-up call to attempt to join a virtual boarding group via the My Disney Experience App? While Disney has yet to say why they have paused the Resistance ride queue, for the time being, our best guess is that the change likely has something to do with the “Disney Genie“ which seems it will be inevitably arriving soon with new signs popping up throughout the Theme Park. Genie’s new “Lightning Lane“ is likely to have an impact on Rise of the Resistance as it has been previously shared that if you can’t snag a boarding group before they are all gone for the day, you can buy your way onto Rise of the Resistance with the “Lightning Lane”. Disney has yet to release the cost of the Lightning Lane rides. We will continue to keep you posted as we learn more about what’s to come for the standby line, virtual queue, and lightning lane for this incredible attraction.
