This is truly hard to believe!
Niagara Falls, one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the world, has captivated visitors for centuries with its awe-inspiring beauty. Known for its powerful cascades and mesmerizing mist, this magnificent sight has caught the eyes of millions of tourists.
It also caught the eye of one of the world’s most brilliant visionaries: Walt Disney.
A Trip That Changed Walt’s Mind
Back in 1963, Walt Disney was fresh off the massive success of Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. After seeing how lucrative and popular the Park was, Walt knew that he wanted to create another Park that was even bigger and better.
The idea for Walt Disney World began to formulate in his mind; there was just one problem. It was difficult, even in 1963, for Walt to find the perfect area for a Park. He needed somewhere with a lot of land, easy access, and good weather all year round.
During a trip around the United States with his wife, Lillian, his brother, Roy, and his sister-in-law, Edna, Walt visited the incredible Niagara Falls.

Walt Disney World… At Niagara?!
Immediately, Walt loved Niagara Falls. He found the area beautiful and was interested in it, especially due to its already massive tourist appeal. During his visit, Walt began seriously considering it as a location for the future Walt Disney World Resort. By combining the breathtaking beauty of Niagara Falls with the enchantment of Disney, this new location could have really been a magical experience for Guests.
Unfortunately, this idea never ended up happening because of the harsh winter weather that Niagara Falls has. Walt was sure that he needed the new Resort to be a year-round location like Disneyland Resort. Eventually, Walt found his perfect location in Orlando, Florida. Still, it is so interesting to think about what could have been if he had gone through with Niagara Falls as a location.
