Disney’s newest upcoming animated feature film will be an action-adventure story that takes fans into an unknown world. Fantastical, unimaginable creatures await in that world. And it’s there, in that world, where the Clades family of explorers will have to work through their differences or risk thwarting the efforts of their most important mission ever.
The first peek at animation for the upcoming animated feature gives us “otherworldly” vibes, as though the story will be set in another world, an imaginary world, or perhaps in another dimension even.
Strange World, which was originally to be called, Searcher Clade, will be the 61st animated feature film for Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The website BleedingCool.com gives an interesting insight into the feature, especially when you consider that Disney is fairly mum about the storyline so far:
“The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission. According to director Don Hall, “Strange World” is a nod to pulp magazines—popular fiction from the first half of the 20th century that was printed on inexpensive wood pulp paper. “I loved reading the old issues of pulps growing up,” he said. “They were big adventures in which a group of explorers might discover a hidden world or ancient creatures. They’ve been a huge inspiration for ‘Strange World.'”
Strange World will be directed by Don Hall, who also directed Big Hero 6 and Raya and the Last Dragon. The film’s story was written by Qui Nguyen, who was the co-writer for Raya and the Last Dragon. Roy Conli, who also worked on Big Hero 6 and Tangled, will produce the feature.
Strange World has a release date of November 23, 2022.
