In 2010, Disney brought the story of Rapunzel to life with its newest animated movie, Tangled.
Tangled starred actress and singer Mandy Moore as the titular Disney princess, Zachary Levi as Flynn Ryder (AKA Eugene Fitzherbert), and Donna Murphy as Mother Gothel. The movie tells the story of an infant princess (Rapunzel) who was kidnapped by Mother Gothel because of her magical hair, which could keep her young forever.

Tangled was a hit with both audiences and critics, making nearly $600 million at the box office. The film has an 89% critics rating and an 87% audience score on the website Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences loved everything about the movie — from the humorous writing to the amazing animation, the hilarious sidekicks, and the incredible music.

Since 2010, Disney has released a number of Tangled short films.
This includes Tangled Ever After (2012), Tangled: Before Ever After (2017), Tangled The Series: Short Cuts (2017), and Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventures, which ran from 2017 until 2019. All of these Tangled shorts are available to stream on Disney+.
And now, we can confirm that Disney is working on a Tangled adaptation for Broadway!
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is working on a Tangled stage show. Unfortunately, the status of the show could be put in jeopardy because the Actors’ Equity Association has voted to authorize a strike against the Broadway League:
This round of negotiations began on Jan. 22, and the contract, which had been in place since 2019, expired on Feb. 11. The share in the 1 percent of profits remains in the contract, but this round, Equity is arguing for pay increases above the levels set in 2019, while the Broadway League is pointing to the fact that the developmental sessions themselves are not money-making.
At this time, we have no further information on Disney’s Tangled stage show. We do not have any casting news, and we do not know where Disney plans to have this show performed.
However, this is not the first time that Disney has brought Tangled to life in a stage show. Right now, guests who sail on the Disney Magic — one of the ships in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet — can watch Tangled: The Musical. The stage show uses both live-action and puppetry to tell the beloved story. There are also three new songs that guests can hear!
Disney is also reportedly working on turning Tangled into a live-action film. Much like the Broadway show, there is also very little known about the potential live-action film.
Disney Dining will keep readers updated as we learn more about Disney’s latest stage adaptation.
